For the people who have the solitude house i would like to know if the safe in the bedroom isn't respawning as i noticed there was some gear in there. I'm pretty sure it doesn't but i want to ask before i put all my dragon preist masks in there which took at least 30+ gametime to find :(

You can always go into the console using the ~ key and type player.setownership and then click on the safe or any other containers in your home. I always do that just for an added bit of security to not have the containers respawn. So far it's worked

Unless Bethsoft changed how containers work since Oblivion/Fallout3/NV, ownership has nothing to do with respawning there is a seperate flag for this in TESCS/GECK.

I know the instructions say that player owned containers are safe for long term storage, but probably only because the content creators only used NON-respawning containers in the player houses. At least that how it worked in the other titles.

Incedentally any container is safe so long as you come back EVERY day, I initally used the barrels in Riverwood (for about 2 weeks gametime) until I purchased a home.

My apologies if the console command player.setownership doesn't affect the respawning of containers. I got that bit of advice from this thread where folks much more knowledgeable than me have posted some great info- it is on page 3 that this command was mentioned and in reading many many pages after this no-one had contradicted it:
