Help! tried to fiddle and now skse won't launch

Everything was working fine-- launching from the skyrim folder thru the SKSE loader (does not work thru NMM). Then I moved some files around and it won't launch at all!

Take a look. I'm sure there is a quick fix but I don't know what it is.

Is Steam running in the background when you try to launch the game through SKSE_loader? If not, try it.

The last three text files (.log0) in the folder you showed are log files and may or may not contain pertinent information to what's going on. Your \Skyrim\ directory looks fine though.

Ok now there is a new problem. Ignore the first post. I now am using skse through the NMM. It loads to the main menu but then it gives me an ingame message that says there are objects missing from my saved games and would I like to keep loading? when i say yes, it crashes.

I had the covergirl mod for my main character and then I was messing with the data files for the highelf female, and I wonder if it is getting confused.

When I try to load a new game, it just keeps showing the splash screen.

Have you recently uninstalled any mods? If so, note them and add them back one at a time until the crash goes away. Check the readme of the responsible mod and see if it has any uninstallation instructions that differ from how you removed the mod. If not, or if the readme's uninstallation instructions don't help, you should contact the author of the mod and let them know the exact problem you're having with their mod, your system specs, what other mods you're running, and where exactly your save game has your character at the moment. If you haven't uninstalled any mods, reopen NMM and double check that everything that should be checked is. You may also need to double check your file structure as from the sound of your OP you were moving files around in the first place. If you accidentally moved something (the .bsa archives for example) to the wrong location that could also cause this.

As an example, say you have a mod that adds a new weapon to the game, and you currently have that weapon equipped. Now let's say you removed this mod while your save file still has that weapon equipped. This could potentially cause the issue you're running into.

Yes I messed with some of the data files that had a weapon and appearance mod in it. But I never played the game with them. And I messed with a few of the other files. I just want to be able to go back to any loaded game from earlier. It says that the earlier save relies on content that is no longer available. But many of my earlier saves were pre-mod and they won't load either. How do I restore my earlier version of the game? Should I just restore the vanilla version of the game?

I wonder if some of the files I fiddled with are in the wrong folder now. Does any of this stuff look like it should go back into the data files? or anything?

Yeah, you've moved around and renamed files that Skyrim expects to be named a certain thing and be located at a certain directory. Reinstalling Skyrim won't fix your save unless you completely reinstall all of your mods as well, and if you didn't move any of the vanilla files (primarily the .bsa archives in the \Data\ directory that contain all of the games vanilla resources, and Skyrim.esm that also belongs in the \Data\ directory, but potentially other files as well) then there's no real reason to do a reinstall of the game unless you can't undo the changes you made to the file structure manually for some reason, or you think it would be faster to reinstall from scratch.

If you go the manual direction, SKyrim.esm, Update.esm, and all of those .bsa archives need to go back to the \Skyrim\Data\ folder. Lightning Head, Maiden Armor, and Weapons need to be renamed back to what they were before you added "(non-replacing)" and they need to go back to the directory they were in.

If you do go the full reinstall route be sure to check the \Skyrim\ folder after you've uninstalled the game and basically delete everything left behind by the uninstall as uninstalling the game won't get rid of folders and files you've added to the game's directory.

Edit: After looking over your \Skyrim\ folder again, I'm thinking a full reinstall might be your best option for two reasons. First, you've moved a lot and tracking down and undoing everything you've moved is going to take a lot of time. Secondly, you have Steam (and therefore Skyrim) located in the default \Program Files\ directory which can cause problems with modding the game due to Windows UAC. To avoid UAC issues, it's best to move Steam and reinstall Skyrim to a directory that UAC doesn't affect. Here's my general post on Windows UAC:

If you're on Vista/7, Steam (and therefore Skyrim) is installed in the default (C:\Program Files) location, and you're having problems with replacers or simply mods (plugins) not working at all, even though you've activated them in NMM, or mods refusing to deactivate, even though all of their files have been removed, then you most likely have a UAC problem. It is possible to turn off UAC though it's not recommended for the vast majority of Windows users. To get around UAC without turning it completely off you'll need to move Steam to a location UAC does not affect (C:\Games\ is a commonly used location). This will most likely break any 3rd party utilities such as NMM as it will leave old registry keys behind that point to the location you originally installed Skyrim in. If you come across this issue, you'll have to uninstall Skyrim, clean the old registry keys, reboot, then reinstall Skyrim. I personally recommend using Revo Uninstaller as if you uninstall Skyrim through it, it will automatically scan for and ask if you'd like to delete old registry keys. If you're interested in keeping your old mods, config files, and/or saved games, tips found in Bben's Oblivion Reinstall Procedure work for Skyrim as well.

Edit Edit: For you to fix your game save, you're most likely going to need to reinstall any and all mods you've currently installed (though it may not be the mods causing your problem, it may just be what you've done to the file structure). Still, you should make a note of every mod you currently have installed either on real paper or in something like notepad and be sure to reinstall as many as possible to the new directory. Mass uninstalling mods is just as troublesome as mass installing them because then you have no idea which mod is responsible for any issues you may run into so it's generally recommended to install/uninstall mods one at a time and test your game (and the mod's functions) briefly before adding or removing any others. I'm also going to repeat that you need to manually verify everything in the \Skyrim\ folder is gone after you've uninstalled the game to be sure you aren't leaving old, broken, mod data behind.

Just one small thing, that may or may not be helpful ... Sometimes after un-installing mods, it's a good idea to your Steam Library -> right click on Skyrim -> click "Properties" -> click on the "Local Files" tab -> click "Verify integrity of game cache"

On several occasions when my game seems buggy or crashes randomly Steam has re-downloaded say 2 x 6kb "Essential game files" and solved the issue for me.

If your character was made and it uses a cosmetic mod, deleting the mod will cause your game to crash because your character now has a hair texture

or face texture assigned to it that the game can't find anymore.

The only way I can think of to save that game is to reinstall the cosmetic back to the way it was, load your game then to a console command of showracemenu and edit your character to use default hair etc.

After looking at your folder it's a mess, you've got the BSAs out in the main folder instead of the Data folder, you've got textures and folders out in the main folder instead of the Data folder.

You've got SKSE plugins in the root directory instead of Data\SKSE\Plugins

You've even got the main ESM's out in the root directory.

You're better off uninstalling and reinstalling
