laserplatypus
I got back into Skyrim with the release of the Special Edition. I tried downloading mods through NMM before being reminded that I had previously configured those links to open in MO. Some quick research showed that MO doesn't seem to be updated for SE, so I wanted to switch back to NMM. However, after uninstalling MO, the in-browser "Download (NMM)" links simply did nothing. I tried using the MO config program to prioritize NMM, toggling the "Associate with NXM URLs" option, and completely uninstalling then reinstalling NMM, and nothing worked. I'm using Chrome, but when I tried from IE it gave the following message: "Unable to open this helper application for nxm://Skyrim/mods/XXXXX/files/XXXXXXXXXXThe protocol specified in this address is not valid. Make sure the address is correct, and try again." (The X's are strings of number that vary depending on the mod.) I get the same results with other mods and other games. It seems this fellow (https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1957079-cant-download-mods-from-browser-using-nmm/) had the same issue, but it wasn't resolved. Can anyone help?
Kroekr
Not an expert. My suggestion would be to uninstall MO. Uninstall NMM. Then re-download and install NMM outside of program files directory. As a side note, the forums for SSE are here: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/4045-skyrim-special-edition-files/
laserplatypus
Okay, I've finally found something that works. It looks like my computer was looking to MO's nxmhandler.exe for guidance on what do do with NXM links. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of that dependence entirely, but I discovered if you manually input "skyrimse" and "morrowind" into the "supported games" tab associated with NXM, then those links will work with those games. Not a great solution but I'm satisfied with it.
twiztedmongoloid
You already partially figured it out. You have to redirect the nxmhandler so NMM can use it. I cant say how because i am not playing special edition and havent used NMM in 2 years.
