To all mod authors: useless white Alpha channels

A current issue with the latest DDS Nvidia plugins is that DXT1 no alpha has a bad habit of saving with an unwanted white alpha channel. This issue does not occur with earlier versions of the plugin. I discussed this with a fellow mod author Mr Dave who confirmed the problem.

Personally I'm now using ATI's Compressonator because it does as its told and does not save unwanted alphas.

For that is good news, it confirms I wasn't as stupid as I thought I where. Sad thing is that I only wanted the alpha gone cause i though that was the root of the texture looking bad. Bad news is that it seems the only reason to ugly textures is my low skillset. :)

The latest nvidia plugin saves DXT1 no alpha correctly for me. CS5 x64.

  • 3 months later...

So if I was to take a brand new mesh and create my own uvw map, paint it up, what are the exact formats I need to save the textures as,

I saved as DXT1 no alpha for the .dds and DXT1 1bit alpha for the _n.dds and my model turns out all black, what am I doing wrong?
