SKIT: Skyrim Interhold Transit

So, when I forked over 50g for the cart to take me to Winterhold (which just dropped me off with no real way back outside of my two feet) this idea hit me.

Skyrim needs a real transit system. One that:

[*]Will take me to any city, town, or village - anywhere people live.

[*]Will take me to certain high profile landmarks (standing stones, ruins, etc.)

[*]Has an option to sightsee during the journey or I can just take a nap.

[*]Has security in the very real possibility of bandit or dragon attack

[*]Has a freight option if I want to send stuff home if I'm away for a while.

[*]Has a seat for my companion

[*]Can pay for it to wait outside a dungeon, charge based on amount of time it waits. (DragonbornP)

[*]Possible Thieves Guild interaction (defend from being robbed/find and rob the moving wagon/cart) (Aokami)

[*]Prices fluctuate depending on length of journey and relative danger... recent dragon attack, civil war battle, etc) (Aokami)

[*]May encounter NPC's traveling from one city to another (Aokami)

[*]Carriage Guards number/skill level/type will fluctuate on origin city and can be beefed up for a price if you want them to stay in or near a dangerous area. (Aokami)

[*]Oxen (modded cows?) used to pull cart. Slower journey but much stronger and more durable than horses. (jdsnics)

[*]Loot chest outside of player residence(s) for deliveries (jdsnics)

[*]Base SKIT in outposts in the various Holds (1-2 per). Mercenary for hire, horse for rent, etc. Once Thane of that Hold would get a quest to travel free. (RbtRvltin)

[*]Upon achieving Thane for a specific Hold, get quests to upgrade/establish Outposts. Possible buy-in where income is generated and paid out to investors.

Now, I don't have anywhere near the coding chops to pull something like this off... but I'd be happy to provide whatever assistance (plot or quest writing, voice acting, moral support, QC, etc.) Any modding geniuses out there want to take this under their wing?

EDIT: Added idea from DragonbornP

EDIT: Added ideas from Aokami / jdsnics - fantastic stuff! Thanks.

EDIT: Added idea from RbtRvltin. Good input... that would give it structure and a long-term quest goal!

Now THIS would beba great mod. I always wanted the option to not have the cart judt transport me, I want to be able to see the cart moving across the whole journey. (like in the beginning of the game) then tthere should also be the option of paying him extra to wait at your destination for (the more hours you want him to wait, the more septims) sp that you could just go to the small village which has a smelter, smelt your things, go to the bar, then come back to the cart and have him drop you back.

There should be like a place resembling a bus-stop except this being a carraige stop. Now that would be an awesome mod.

EDIT: Added idea from Dragonborn P

You should put quests of the thieves guild into that... where either they heist you loot... and you have to take it back... or you make a heist on an adventurer who seems to have cleared some cave before you and you heard this, either through rumors (saying investigate) or when listening to them in the more livelier inns..

Prices are of course dependant on how far you travel and how dangerous the journey is...

During your travels you may see another carriage travel to the city you come from... (either with chests and barrels or with people)

Guards of carriages vary from town to town, but later in the game with more dragons coming, an expensive dragonguard (barrier magic) will have to be paid to escort the carriage if you want to have them stay near the entrance of a dungeon

Or just picture it as a certain type of follower (or followers) that you can hire for an expedition into the wilds - that way it isn't like a tour guide, it's a service. I picture a cart with big ole oxen (use the cows) hauling it for all that extra loot you want to drag across the province. Establish a loot chest by the front door of each home that they'd deliver to for you, etc etc - that'd be wicked cool.

  • 3 weeks later...
I think that a more feasible version would be outposts, stuck in a bunch of random(or strategic) locations, going a set amount of distance away. They could all have a mercenary for hire, a horse for rent, and a carriage to all the other outposts. Then, if you were, say Thane of that reach, you could do some quest for each outpost and use it free. :D

You could use it for free, but since you are such a good thane/jarl (if a mod allows it) you would pay for your city's population to use the carts, for maintenance, food for animals, food for guard, guards & drivers pay. etc...
