Help needed - tiny mesh/ shader problem in game for new mesh

Hi,

I've been making a mod for a Witch hunter's hat on a request from a forum post, and I've learnt a lot using the resources available. However, there is one niggling thing on the final thing in game. Here's a screenshot or two:http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32538545/ScreenShot2.jpg

You see the black area (about 3 polygons) on the mesh? That shouldn't be there.. I've tried importing the nif into 3ds max, where I've been doing the work, and it doesn't happen in the render. I've checked the normal map, the polygon smoothing information and the uvs, but it doesn't seem to be any of them. I'm stumped... anyone else got any ideas?

 

Edit: it also doesn't respond to lighting changes, so I doubt it's the shadows in game.
