NPC/Player related console commands not working?

For some reason when I select an NPC (EG Piper, Curie, Nick etc) and run a command like "Unequipall" or "Equipitem [iD no.]" nothing happens anymore. I know for sure that I have the right object selected in the console because I've double checked the ID's for the said NPC's and they match up so why are these commands having zero effect? What am I missing? Other, non object dependent commands like "TM", & "TFC 1-2" still work fine so its only commands that apply to NPC's.

Edit: Okay this is weird. SOMETIMES these commands work, but other times they do nothing. What could be causing this? It seems to be completely random, like it only registers your commands when its "in the mood". Does anyone have any ideas? I've never had this problem with any of the other Beth RPG's, only FO4.

Is the command going through? As in no error message?. If so, have you tried same NPC in game to see if could equip with a hunting rifle or something? If that works then sounds like a prob with ID#'s. Not sure what mods if any you run but there are some really good ones that change #'s. Would suggest getting in front of NPC and dropping whatever you want equipped on floor. Use console to get ID# from it, pick up, give to, and then run command with that ID#. But with it being a Random thing as you called... that is odd for console commands. Would suggest checking system itself out as in what could be suddenly lagging your keyboard out or RAM

Yea there were no console error messages or warnings, it appeared as though the game was accepting the commands as normal, but had no effect. For the last 30 mins or so, the commands have worked every time, but as you mentioned keyboard lagging, I did notice that there was like a 0.5 second lag between pressing a key and the letter appearing in the console (this is while commands weren't working. Now the keyboard isn't lagging).

I really have no idea what could be causing this but luckily its working now, atleast at this particular moment lol, so I better quickly test out these new outfits before it stops working again! I'll look into those types of mods you mentioned too.

Console commands stop working at a certain point, i.e. when having played for more than a couple of hours. I've had it happen with the TCL and other "normal" commands. Restarting the game from desktop sets things right; in my case anyway.

Thanks Jimmy, after making that last post it stoped working again, so I'll remember to try that next time, I just had no idea what was causing it or how to stop it!

I guess it's one of those bugs that have to do with bad V-RAM management so that some resources are diverted away from things like the console. It's just a guess, as I haven't got a clue either why this keeps happening.

Then there's something that prevents those specific commands from working, like a mod you installed, unless you have the issue also in a vanilla game (i.e. without any mods installed) For the carryweight issue, make sure you use player.modav carryweight instead of player.setav carryweight. Setav has to be redone everytime you closed the game. Modav is permanent. also remember the amount you enter is added to what you already have. When having 300 carryweight and you enter player.modav carryweight 500 you'll have a carryweight of 800 afterwards.
