Rikirik
I Have An AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.40GHz, NVDIA HD3300 ( i intend to upgrade) & 8GB ram. My loading times are very long.for instance : - Startup +- 2min (starting in my home in riften)- Leaving Honeybrew to main world, not riften, +- 4.5min- Other occasions (fast travel) i experienced loading times between 10 & 15 min ! playing with steam offline i noted loading times were about 30sec faster in general. I can live with lower quality graphics, even with not too fast fps, but those loading times make things very unpleasant I use defrag (from time to time) & always close all other apps before playing I'd appriciate any suggestions for improvement (other than upgrading my graphics card :-) ) . thnx
a7x5631
Do you have any idea what your hard drive speeds are? That's what really determines load times.
Sortin
I have an unlocked Phenom II X2 (so B50, quad core also) that is running at 3.1ghz, same RAM, better video card (4870). I have short load times, though I can't compare those instances, as I'm not to them in the game. I assume it has to do with the video card, but I don't know how yours compares...lower number, I assume it's a lesser card, pretty simple. Since you're planning a video card upgrade, I think that should solve your loading times. But then again, could be in the hard drive, I don't know. Mine isn't especially fast, so I don't see how that would be the main problem for you.
GoodfellowGoodspring
I have a 5-6 year old PC (thats with a P4) and i tend to get longer load times in new areas and when fast traveling along distance, i would say a 'good' loading time would be about 10secs and the longest about 40-50 secs. I play in 1152x864 (mainly because i sit away from the screen and cant see the difference) but when i change to my normal 1280x1024 my loading times increase a lot. I would keep the texture detail high but change the resolution and anti aliasing etc because it really makes loading quicker. Aumakua
Are you serious? minutes? my game takes about 5 seconds to get to the main screen, and a load takes maybe 5 seconds at the most, opening doors about 1 second, going to a new town about 3-4 seconds... I don't think I have ever waited for more than 5 seconds on anything... of course I am using an Intel SSD G2, but I didn't think it would change load times from 5 seconds to "minutes"...This is why I will never buy another console game, I wouldn't be able to play this with long wait times, I need instant loads! I suggest the next upgrade EVERYONE makes is SSD if you don't have one already, it is the biggest improvement for the money that you can do right now. I'm getting these same speeds with my 3TB sata3 :) I'd recommend running the stupid windows experience index thingy if you run vista/7 - it's not comprehensive but will give you an indicator as to which component of your machine is the weakest. other than that, use msconfig to disable unnecessary startup items and make sure graphics drivers are up to date. a quick scan with malware bytes wouldn't hurt either
Drkcelt
To Goodfellow I say a7x was talking about HDD speed not CD speed and he is quite correct. To the OP I say something is very wrong there with those load times, I don't think it's a Nvidia HD3300 ATI make the HD3300.I run a Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 5670 and load times are 10secs to start game and 5 secs all other times at worst, even with other stuff going on in the background. Even my mates xbox doesn't take 10% as long as that (and he hasn't installed it yet to his HDD)I'm afraid you might not want to hear it but the video card is probably where the problem lies
Marcvss
I'm afraid you might not want to hear it but the video card is probably where the problem liesAbsolutely correct! My mate runs Skyrim on an AMD Phenom II X4 945, with 8Gb ram and a Radeon HD 4650.He has very long loading times aswell but interupts the loads by pressing ctrl alt del then activating taskmanager and that speeds things up quit a bit. On my former rig were I used a gtx 560 card I had very short loading times were cpu and ram setup were identical to his rig.
gloomygrim
Dude thats weird its taking so long your pc is far better than mine, i only have a core 2 due 2.3g, 4g ram and a gt2200 Gcard (my reserve card, my 8800gtx died lol) and i have had no load time problems ever, i takes about 10 seconds to get into the game, and load my save and i have no problems with loading in game ever. Im not a pc wiz but could it be a bad instalation, my gcard is dire and like i said i have no load problems. Hope you find out what it is dude
Iv000
Do you by any chance run SBW (Skyrim Borderless Window) and Skyrim in windowed mode?I noticed that sometimes the loading screens freeze and it would take a few minutes to get into the game. I fixed it by doing a few tweaks in the mod description.
