Varied Guard Uniforms

Yeah, I know that there is a colour difference in the guard uniforms for each city, but I don't think that cuts it. I reckon that each city needs to have armours with different meshes, so they really feel unique.

Another thing, the Harfingar guards (Imperial Legion) wear the same outfit as the Stormcloaks, except for the red colour. Surely the two factions would be trying harder to be different to each other than that!

So, I reckon that each city's uniform could be changed in these ways:

-Solitude:

The Solitude guard are basically Imperial guards, so I think they need less fur and more chainmail. The helmets are fine and suitable for that region.

-Windhelm:

The Windhelm guards need much more fur and a heavier look to suit the climate. The helmets should be replaced with animal heads like in Bloodmoon.

-Whiterun:

Whiterun guards are pretty good as they are, except for the helmet. The helmet should be less compact and open faced.

-Markarth:

Markarth is easily the most fortified city, so the guards should be big and bulky. I think more metal on the outfit and also large pauldrons.

-Riften:

Riften guards should be lightly armoured to relate to the thieves guild. Perhaps cloth or leather instead of fur, and hoods instead of helmets.

-Morthal:

Morthal looks like a lumber town, and so the guards should be dressed in leather and fur, and perhaps no helmets.

-Falkreath:

The obvious hunting village should adorn their guards in fur and cloth. Think of a hunter: this is what guards should be more like.

-Winterhold:

The guards here need some sort of reference to the College, so I reckon they need robes with heavy fur pauldrons so they look rugged up and ready to face the cold. I also think that they should wear mage hoods with face coverings like the Nightingale hood.

-Dawnstar:

Dawnstar guards would be best with armour that is very clothey in respect to the associated quests and the obvious "sleepy town" namesake.

What do the rest of you think? These are just my opinions, but I reckon they are all fairly accurate.

A good idea. A little bit of variety never hurts and creating new armours is something lots of modders can do.

Suitable armour types for Skyrim's climate might be cuir bouillie, chainmal, plate, studded leather. If possible, add a hide cloak or cape to protect the wearer from the low temperatures.

Great idea, I think Winterhold should have the same type of armor as the battle mages from Oblivion in that one quest. (Blue hood, steel sword/armor, no shield) They would have say a random destruction spell in their left hand and a steel sword in their right hand.

Disagree with Winterhold. The townsfolk don't really like the College so the guards shouldn't either. I think they should look more like your Windhelm example, bulked up in fur.

Oh yeah, you are right. I forgot about that. Although, I'm not sure if the guards have any opinion on the college. I thought it was only the townspeople who didn't trust them.

Where do guards come from but from the town? :D

Also, random guards will say stuff like: "What is a mage of the college..."

Either way, the town and the college have animosity. Also, even if they didn't, Winterhold is much colder than Windhelm so fur would still be appropriate. xD
