Is Skyrim SE worth it right now?

Hello all!

I've been playing Oldrim a lot the last month after taking a big break and I was amazed at how good the mods can make the old game look.

I have a pretty good PC (i7-6700k, GTX 1080 8GB VRAM, 16GB RAM. Not bragging because it's relevant) but I still get some lag spikes in towns etc. Even after trying to tweak my .ini for quad core (Which didn't make a difference at all it seems by MSI Afterburner).

Anyway to the point. I've heard that the new x64 engine helps to reduce the FPS lag that Oldrim has. So I was wondering if it's worth it for me to move over to Skyrim SE.

99% of the mods I use at the moment are already on SE and my save game is pretty new and not heavily modded.

TL;DR

  • Even with a good system still getting lag.
  • Is it worth buying SE?
  • Is SE better than Oldrim (Less CTD and lag)?

Thank you

no. wait till next year. unless there's a good sale for it right now

Yes that's what I was thinking to be fair. It is -25% off on Steam for the holidays (£22.49 instead of £29.99) until the 2nd of January.

How is the lag and CTDs, are they just as often? Also did you notice any improvement in FPS?

for vanilla yeah it is a bit better but i have never had vanilla Skyrim crash on me for oldrim and SE so eh. the main reason to wait is for mods.

I'm not sure if this is the proper way to reply (To quote people) but I want to thank you.

Thanks for the replies and advice. By your post count and content you seem like a very helpful and active member of the forums and it's nice to see people like you around.

I decided to go ahead and buy it while it's on sale. Install my mods, see if it's better. If it is then I'll be a happy bunny. If not I'll wait for patches.

I'll post my results in FPS and CTDs here if it's okay within the next day or too in case anyone else is wondering this question.

The only things I could find on Google were from big game magazines only talking about the base game and nothing to do with modding which I'm sure 99% of the people wanting to transfer to SE are.

Anyway I'm rambling.

Thanks!

in my experience i want a refund. never played skyrim and still two months later still havent played the game. cant get it stable at 30fps while using my brand new gaming pc. not top of the line but a 1500 dollar gaming pc should have no problem. tried everything besides blowing my gd head off becuse theres nothing the end user can do to fix bethesdas hard coded mistakes.

Wait? What? LOL. I have a AMD A-4 6300 cpu and a AMD RADEON HD 6570 on medium graphic settings and get

a stable capped 30FPS. I suggest you rewind and try again.
