Run4rch
Hello Everyone! So, I am having a TAD BIT of an issue with Skyrim's resolution! My monitor at the moment is quite older and only runs native 1366x768. However my living room television runs full 1080p. The issue I am having is that no matter whether I run Skyrim through the Nexus Mod Manager, SKSE, or the Skyrim Launcher, no matter what resolution is set it will switch to 1080p. The monitor visibly shows a little note up in the corner of the screen showing it switching to 1080p. This did not happen until I used the 1080p Television in my living room. When I switched back to the monitor in my room, this problem began. Does anyone have any sort of an idea what could possibly be going on with this?! Thanks for any help guys! I'd really like to get back to playing in the correct resolution where everything is clear and not fuzzy looking!! Edit: I replied to the good fellow below, but for those just reading my SkyrimPrefs.ini is set to 1366x768. I even set them inside the launcher itself. So it should be that resolution, instead it automatically switches to 1080p. Makes no sense to me at all. dragonagefreak
Start your SkyrimLauncher.exe and set the Resolution you want to play with and exit the Launcher. Then go to Documents/MyGames/Skyrim/ and open the SkyrimPrefs.ini (Not the Skyrim.ini) and find the lines "iSize H=????" and "iSize W=????" under [Display] and change the numbers to your resolution ("iSize H=768" and "iSize W=1366") and save.Go to Steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim/Skyrim/ and to the same to this SkyrimPrefs.ini It could be that the character-creation menu isn't shown correctly (maybe inventar, too) and I don't know why. I hope it helps.
Run4rch
Thanks for the reply!! Unfortunately I have tried to change the settings by launching the launcher and physically changing them, and I have also changed the resolution setting of "iSize W" and "iSize H". Everything is set to 1366x768. Yet despite all of this, something still forces 1080p Edited December 27, 2016 by Run4rch
saurusmaximus
Possibly a dumb question, but are you sure you are launching original Skyrim and not SSE?
Run4rch
Possibly a dumb question, but are you sure you are launching original Skyrim and not SSE? I have tried launching "TESV.exe", "SkyrimLauncher.exe" Straight from Skyrims folder itself. I have found that it is doing this with every game I played on the living room television. It's like it has gridlocked these games into 1080p, upon further inspection I have found that it only does this while I am in fullscreen. Mass Effect 3 will run 1366x768 Windowed (Borderless and Bordered), however since skyrim will not run 1366x768 windowed I cannot test this, but I assume it would do the same. Mass effect says that it is running in 1366x768, yet the monitor pops up saying "HDMI - 1080p" ONLY when fullscreen. I'm qutie baffled by this seeing as I have gone into windows 10 display settings, NVIDIA Control Panel to try, but everything is set accordingly to run 1366x768. These 2 games are the only ones that suddenly force 1080p on this monitor.
twiztedmongoloid
It only started this after connecting to the 1080p tv? If 720p was working before there is no reason it shouldnt work now. You can manually adjust the resolution in your INI files and then set them to read only. OR you can completely delete your INI files and let skyrim generate new ones for you. You can also manually adjust the resolution of your monitor in display settings. Due to unfortunate circumstances i recently had to lower my resolution :(
