ganoesparan06
Okay so this is a new advertising low.Basically what I am finding today is an irritating enough problem that I am genuinely considering an ad blocker. What's happening is with the ad that appears in the video at the bottom of each page (on Skyrim SE nexus) that plays an ad video auto-muted another ad that is loud, obnoxious, and intrusive is playing over the top of it in the first 20 seconds much like ads appear over the top of videos on YouTube. There is no way to pause this ad or mute it. It's an ad for Microsoft Cloud. It's really annoying. I clicked the report ad link but it occurred to me that that will just report the underlying ad and not the actual ad that's getting up my nose so I thought i'd post this here. Thanks. Dark0ne
Hi there, Thank you for the report. As per the sticky at the top of these forums, please can you give me the following missing details: What we need:Let us know what anti-malware/adware/virus software you have on your PC and ensure you've run a scan that returns clean before reporting the ad to us.The date and time you saw this ad.The URL of the page you were on at the time, e.g. http://www.nexusmods.com/games/?Your general location - e.g. I live in Exeter, in Devon, in England. If you don't want to give the city you live in, then your state and country will suffice, e.g. Devon, England. If you get redirected or sent to another site, provide the URL that you are sent to.A screenshot of the bad ad really, really, REALLY helps us out as well. Please take the time to do a print-screen or use the snipping tool in windows (press the start menu, type "snipping", click "snipping tool") and upload it to your report for us to view. The snipping tool is an extremely simple and intuitive piece of software for taking pictures of what's on your screen.Malware, adware and viruses are prevalent across the world, infecting billions of systems. It's extremely difficult for us to know whether the bad ad you're seeing is actually being caused by our advertising code, or by malicious code running on your own system. Please ensure you're running adequate anti-malware software on your system, that it's up-to-date, and that it has run since seeing this ad and returned clean. Also, please can you tell me what the bad ad is actually advertising? E.g. what product is it? What name does it give?
ganoesparan06
Hey Robin!Sorry should have gave more details... Let us know what anti-malware/adware/virus software you have on your PC and ensure you've run a scan that returns clean before reporting the ad to us. I have windows 10 so I am just using the base Windows stuff - Windows Defender. The date and time you saw this ad. I logged onto the sites this morning around 10:45; so I saw them today. The URL of the page you were on at the time, e.g. http://www.nexusmods.com/games/? Every single page of the Skyrim SE Nexus. Not even kidding. Every page I go onto it jumps to the bottom and plays this really loud unmutable unstoppable ad over the top of an ad video at the bottom right of every page.Your general location - e.g. I live in Exeter, in Devon, in England. If you don't want to give the city you live in, then your state and country will suffice, e.g. Devon, England. Glasgow, Scotland. If you get redirected or sent to another site, provide the URL that you are sent to. Not redirected but just irritated. It's an ad for Microsoft Cloud. And frustratingly I don't seem to be able to get it to happen now like it was this morning so I am unable to provide a screenie. Sorry.
Dark0ne
Thanks for providing all of that, ganoe. As you're no longer seeing it now, it's possible it was already caught by the ad company. I'll wait to see if anyone else reports this, or alternatively, if it happens again, please let me know and I shall pass it on to our providers for them to sort out. Dark0ne
Thanks Ganeo. I reported it to our provider yesterday after I noticed a significantly higher number of reports from the "report this ad" link below the ad. About 3 times the usual number of reports, and they all seem to be from the UK, so it's definitely a targetted ad. Fingers crossed they can sort this out quickly.
