stars2heaven
I don't remember ever seeing this resolved in the game. Did he have a reason to attack Helgen besides out of just picking a town at random to attack? The game begins with speculation over who has control over the dragon, but once all the possibilities are eliminated there is no real follow up. Does the game reveal anything anywhere? micalov
With the dragon burial map, the blades women mentioned its following a pattern so it was probably just in the way.
nosisab
Because otherwise the character is beheaded and the game ends prematurely.
JanusForbeare
It's a good question though, since the NPCs make a big deal about it being "more than just coincidence".
stars2heaven
Would make perfect sense if Helgen were built on/very-close-to a dragon burial sight. Don't think that's what the second poster meant though.
nosisab
Alduin is an ancient and wise dragon who knows if it did nothing the game would land before even flying. Besides, he needed the PC to get rid of bothersome concurrency and pet rivalry... the reason he keeps sending letters from a friend, to eliminate the annoyance. One could even succeed in eliminating the PC killing two rabbits in one shot. Another theory is he does have an acute sense of aesthetics and feel disgusting the main enemy wandering around without the head (even when clearly it is a totally dispensable append). PS: At lesser extent, he wants the war to not go over so the nords can't unite and turn in all weight against him and his plan. Brianbby
Or, as i like to ''belive''. After the ancients who tried to kill Alduin in the first place sent Alduin forward in time with the Elder Scroll, and then Alduin ended up up by the mountains leading to Skyrim. That's how i like to see it. But it would be fun to have some kind of evidence. When i play Skyrim i make up my own histories and that stuff. Dukkah
Hmm... that is a pretty big plot hole. Hell, he didn't even attack Kynesgrove, and there was a burial mound right up the hill. Do a better job of tying your plots together next time, Beth.
grayle
Hmm, I believe Helgen was near or the actual site where Alduin was banished. After all, the throat of the world was just right next door. If Alduin came out of the dimensional portal at that same instance as the execution, then Alduin would consider the human maggots below as part of the army trying to bring him down. Maybe he was disoriented from the time travel or something. I blame the elder scroll for the whole thing, it threw Alduin right into the Dragonborn's lap(or vice-versa) in order to start the chain of events that would lead up to Alduin's death and the fulfillment of the prophecy. thesapien
When Alduin attacks Helgen, he calls you "Dovakiin". It means he knows who you are, perhaps even his brother, according to the lore. He saved you so you could fulfill your destiny. Read all the books you can find and you'll learn that Alduin is possibly much more than depicted in what the characters alive tell you. If you and your brother were part of an eternal struggle between destruction and creation and one of you was about to be executed by mere mortals, ending this round in a fizzle, maybe you'd step in? One thing is for sure intended by the writers, Alduin intentionally saved you from execution. It was not just some incredibly improbable freak accident or major plot whole. Notice he lands exactly before your head chop. A few minutes later, he actually says dragonborn in the dragon tongue.
