Alehnblivion
Dear Skyrim gamers,my name is Din Therizin IV, I’m an argonian… Ok, joking aside, I am writing this post in search for help. I know that reading this kind of thread could be boring, so I’ll try to be short. My Skyrim is modded, but not heavily, and I don’t have any official DLC installed. I’ve followed Gopher’s videos for modding, and I think nothing went wrong during the installation phase. My character is “old” (many hours of gaming; last save is number 1960), and every mod has been installed on a pre-existing game situation (my saves have progressively acquired new mod contents), but there are not orphan scripts caused by mod removal. After the installation of my last mod, I was able to play without any problems for months. Then, I abandoned Skyrim to do something else and, an year later, I started to play the game with my character again, experiencing, unfortunately, many CTDs not present before. My hardware didn’t change, during the interruption phase, and I didn’t install new mods. The game seems to crash in specific areas where patrols appear (Stormcloaks and Imperials) or are nearby (the mod is Immersive Patrols, and it had never given me problems). If you load a save in which the character is near the CTD area, it is very probable that the game will crash in proximity of that area; but if, for some reasons, you have success in bypassing the CTD, do a couple of quests and then return to the critical area, it seems not affected anymore by the crash issue. When my game sessions begun to be problematic, I did three main things: fixing the memory limit of the game (with SSME), cleaning UPDATE.esm with TESVEdit and purifying my saves with SGSC.No success. Papyrus says: "Unable to call RegisterForSingleUpdate - no native object bound to the script object, or object is of incorrect type".Script involved: "_WetColdBreathActor.psc"Involved mod: Wet & Cold. What does it mean? Any suggestion? Thanks.
Kroekr
Go through your mod list and compare it to those listed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/wiki/dangerous_mods_masterlist . I see that you are using an outdated mod, SSME, and that list will help you with any others you may have (as well as suggest possible replacements). You may need a patch for Wet and Cold to make it play nice with another one of your mods or you may just need to re-install Wet and Cold. The script file may have been corrupted by something during your hiatus. You also may need to defrag your hard drive.
Alehnblivion
Thank you very much for your help, Kroekr. What you say makes perfect sense to me. Today's test was very useful: 1) I loaded my save after deactivating Wet & Cold --> No CTD occurred during the battle Imperials vs Stormcloaks; 2) I loaded my save after reactivating Wet & Cold --> a CTD occurred during the battle Imperials vs Stormcloaks; 3) I loaded my save after replacing the old Wet & Cold with a new version of it --> No CTD occurred during the battle Imperials vs Stormcloaks. I hope everything is solved now. But I'll keep you updated. P.S.: I'd like to know if my way of updating the mod was correct. The steps were: 1) Deactivating the old one via Mod Manager; 2) Entering the game, loading my save and then creating a new save; 3) Activating the new Wet & Cold with NMM; 4) Loading the new save; 5) Saving again. Just one problem: I didn't enter a house or a inn as the author suggests. Edited January 11, 2017 by Alehnblivion
Kroekr
Are you using both MO and NMM at the same time or was one of those a typo? If you still can, I would recommend doing as the author says concerning the indoors activation/de-activation. This is because of the weather scripts not being run indoors. Alehnblivion
Yes, you are right: there were typing errors (because I had pasted my text from Word); now everything should be fine (I have edited my previous post). I use NMM and Loot only. I hope that the new version of Wet and Cold has solved my issue. If I encounter other problems, I'll explain them here. Thank you again. P.S.: Just a curiosity I've had for a long time: suppose that I have to format my PC and that I want to reinstall Skyrim with the same mods I have now (in order to play with the same character and my saves); can I just install Skyrim and then just replace the new Skyrim folder with a backup of my modded Skyrim folder? Maybe I would still need Loot for the load order. Right?
twiztedmongoloid
If you are going to go through the trouble of formatting PC (which is great to do every so often) and reinstalling skyrim i personally would just start fresh. Meaning new game and rebuilt mod list. Formatting PC really helps with getting a little extra performance back.
Alehnblivion
Thank you, twiztedmongoloid. But, if I want to do what I have written, is my procedure correct? Update: Unfortunately, another crash, this time not related to Wet and Cold:Script = defaultSetEnableStateOnResetLinkedRef.pscError = Cannot call isDisabled() on a None object, aborting function call. Update of the update: CTD when fighting against an assassin near Solitude. Different error message. Wet and Cold again not involved. These three kinds of errors seem to share a principle: there's something that a script can't call.I'm desperate: I care about my character and my progress. The idea that my saves are corrupted scares me. P.S.: At the following link you can download the bottom part of the Papyrus related to my last crash (I haven't uploaded directly here because the image would have been too small): https://we.tl/RhjEDs8leq My load order, made by Loot: - Skyrim.esm- Update.esm- SkyUI.esp- Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Major City Interiors.esp- TakeNotes.esp- Footprints. esp- High Level Enemies.esp- iHUD.esp- (unchecked) Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Major City Exteriors.esp- (unchecked) RLO - Major City Exteriors - No Guard Torches.esp- WetandCold.esp- Convenient Horses.esp- SeeYouSleepByMadmole.esp- SkyrimURWL.esp- Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Dungeons.esp- Cloaks.esp- 1nivWICCloaks.esp- 1nivWICSkyCloaksPatch.esp- Immersive Patrols II.esp- Chesko_Frostfall.esp- WATER Plants.esp- RealisticNeedsandDiseases.esp- WATER.esp- RND_AnimalLoot.esp- RND_USKP-Patch.esp- Realistic Lighting Overhaul - Minor Cities and Town Interiors.esp- SplashofRain.esp Edited January 12, 2017 by Alehnblivion
Alehnblivion
Guys, since my mods have always worked perfectly and the only dynamic thing is Steam, I suspect it is involved. When I returned to Skyrim after a period of stop, I noticed, in my Steam page, that there was a check mark in "High Resolution Texture Pack", which is something I had always avoided because of its relation with purple textures and performance loss. It is like Steam had installed this pack without my permission. Then I removed the check mark, but what if this thing I've done is not sufficient to remove the High Texture Pack?I've noticed purple textures again and, in general, my PC seems less proficient than before in running Skyrim. Maybe all my crashes depend on a general performance loss (the game is less fluid, also).Do you know where I can find High Texture Things in my Skyrim folder, so that I remove them? Thanks.P.S.: Sorry for my English: I'm Italian. Update:Just loaded a save created in 2014 (when I was happy about my game): a CTD occurred. Kroekr
Go to data folder and delete the high res texture esp's and bsa's. Download and carefully install http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/72725/? Run game, ctd, then post results from crash fix (spoiler please). Alehnblivion
Ok, I've pasted the three files in the SKSE/Plugins folder after putting d3dx9_42.dll into the main Skyrim folder. I've also given the first variable of the ini file a value of 1. But, after I crash, where do I find the results you are referring to? Two problems: 1) Putting the three files of Crash Fixes into Data/SKSE/Plugins creates a Windows message error before starting the game (something about Kernel32); 2) No results are produced by my crashes (I can't find, in the SKSE folder, any debug text, so you are probably still referring to Papyrus). Final considerations (please, read carefully): The following observations make me think the problem is not in my recent saves and not in my mods/load order: 1) In 2014 I had the same pc, the same mods, the same load order, the same character and the game was fluid and well functioning; also, this morning I observed a crash after loading a save from 2014! 2) Adding or removing memory fixing tools like "ssme" or "Crash Fixes" makes no difference; 3) Adding or removing the old version of Wet & Cold makes no difference; 4) Adding or removing the old version of Wet & Cold makes no difference; 5) Tweaking or not "Skirim.ini" or "SKSE.ini" makes no difference; 6) Lowering or increasing graphical settings makes no difference; 7) Loading a save that has been cleaned or loading an uncleaned save makes no difference; 8') Having a "pure" or "impure" Update.esm makes no difference (it seems everything but benefical).
