JanusForbeare
I bet that if I had never played Morrowind and Oblivion, I would think that Skyrim was the most awesome thing ever. And this is why the game is overhyped. By focusing on mass-appeal, Beth ensured that a large portion of their audience would lack the proper perspective to see Skyrim for what it is: a pale shadow of its predecessors, crippled by missing features and a ridiculously optimistic release date. I was on the official Skyrim site not long ago, and this shocked me to the very core of my being: "Skyrim Named Best RPG of All Time12.19.2011French gaming site Jeux Video has selected Skyrim as their top RPG of all time! Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion also made the site's Top 100 list." I have to assume someone threatened them, and they surrendered.
Dukkah
Hmm... That trailer was just ok. I remember thinking the same at the time. The game is... good, but unfinished and, though it may be my naivete, I don't think there's much the CK and modding can add to what is an already stripped down RPG/ FPS with swords. If the basis isn't there, how can it be built upon, ya know? Yeah, I'd buy it again, but only because it's the best of a watered down genre. One which is quickly merging with the endless waves of shovel-ware and other popular-because-it's-generic gaming divisions.
minngarm
but there is so much to build on. Its one of the few games that come out and you can just see the possibilities of what you can do to improve it, rather than seeing the limitations of the system and trying to fit your vision to that. I certainly hope you're right. I'd love to be proven wrong about it. Nonetheless, until I see this rumored potential actualized, I maintain that it's an illusion. justwannaddl
Skyrim definitely didn't live up to my expectations. I thought it was going to be the equivalent of an updated GOTY version of Oblivion with all the DLCs. The previews didn't really fire me up actually. The music was nice and the dragon was alright. The shouts actually had me a little worried that the magic system was going to become cumbersome. All in all, it was like a tweaked version of vanilla Oblivion. It was good but it really didn't present a lot that I haven't seen before. Then again, I am terribly spoiled by modded Oblivion. They need to put out the damned CK already so that modders can properly get their teeth into Skyrim's guts.
Stormcrown
I think that people need to stop comparing 5-Year Modded Oblivion to Vanilla Skyrim. Be fair and compare Vanilla Oblivion (Which was an absolutely terrible, horrible game) to Vanilla Skyrim. The combat system alone in vanilla oblivion made me hate the game. Block...wait for attack...then attack...repeat...forever

Stormcrown
Point? Click? :O I am confused. But you should check out the combat realism mod. Adds the block timing that was promised!

Adds the block timing that was promised! A mod, OK. Thought we were talking about vanilla. *Shrugs* I'm not entirely certain its not in vanilla. I just don't pay that much attention. I believe that mod just changes the values for blocking and stagger timing. Not exactly a mod, tbh. Regardless, If you think Skyrim combat is the same as Oblivion, you are sadly mistaken.
