Enough said.

Forgive me for being totally oblivious, but who is that? And why is it so extremely noteworthy? Not to sound like an ass, but thousands of people die daily.

And yes, I already hit Wikipedia... Other than being related to some of movie and play stuff, most of which I've never heard of, I don't see how this is such a big deal.

Wow. Have a bit of respect, please?

You don't have to show it for the deceased, but at least for Chesto. For all you know they could have been comrades. Or Chesto could be a fan.

Still doesn't explain who this person is or why there are "So many reasons to mourn that fact." There's no disrespect in Vagrant0 comment, he's just pointing out that it is unreasonable to ask others to mourn a name in a post on an internet gaming forum. Especially when the only explanation given is:

Enough said.

Obviously, more does need to be said.

Thank you Doom.... Your sensitivity does you credit. And yes, I was , am, a fan of the man's work.

But...

The other posters are somewhat correct in what they say, though, perhaps not necessarily in the somewhat irritated tone that they use. And, as posting to any thread is purely voluntary, no one was having demands made on them.

I did not want to go into great , or, frankly, any detail about Minghella the man, or the work of Minghella, here, because this isn't a theatre/TV/writing appreciation site. Though this IS the off topic thread, so....

Perhaps the admin could set aside a topic area for RIPs, where people could express something about someone, who was in public life, who has just died. Art C Clarke just died, as well. Isn't there some one who has been affected by his work, or ideas and who should be able to express that without being made to feel 'out of place'?

As to Minghella... the UK is a rather small , crowded country. We have very good public service broadcasting, and very good national intitutions - museums, theatres, concert halls, sporting arenas, etc.. Anyone who cares to can get a healthy appreciation for, and in a large part, free education about, the Arts as well as many other disciplines.

Those who love the theatric arts, which include TV drama/comedy, cinema, radio, design, dance, writing...,and not just acting and theatre going, know about Anthony Minghella and what a large part he played in our cultural life, and in international cultural life.

I mourn the fact that a creative force has ceased, and at an obscenely young age. Just as , I would hope, people whose only 'other' interest in life is gaming would mourn the passing of a great game designer, or whatever.

Enough said.

Trouble is when you get to the age where you can talk about seeing the Beatles performing live one has a far greater appreciation of the contribution of others to our society than when you are too young even to have seen Mission Impossible in the cinema.

Arthur C Clarke also died yesterday.

I suppose that's another 'who?' from most members of this forum.

Wait... Are you sure? Damn, that sucks. He was such a visionary. I mean I guess I can see it since he was like 90+, and hasn't really been in the public eye for the last 14+ years, but that is depressing.

As for Chesto, I meant no offense, just that your "enough said" post really didn't say much of anything, which begged the question. "Enough said" would have made more sense in the case of someone more well known in other (less cultured) parts of the world. Without that context it's pretty much a "Oh, ok, good to know" kinda response.
