Chesto
No problem, Vagrant. I should have said more at the time but, quite frankly, was too stunned to. When relatively young, 54 only, and extremely talented people are taken off and I'm still left taking up space, it always gives me a looooonnnngggggg pause for thought. Art C Clarke said a very poignant goodbye last year, I think, because he felt his end coming on. The BBC have been carrying it. Thanks for the link, Abramul. I had seen that when it was first loaded, and thought it fitting tribute.
doomjockey
I see and apologise if I took undue offence. It's really not like me to do that... For Anthony Minghella, I didn't know his work well. The kind of name I somewhat remember then Wikipedia and *boom* The English Patient! A renowned work I've actually seen. I watched it two years ago, cuddled close to a sweet girl, and shed a single manly tear (which I hid). I think that deserves a nod. Trouble is when you get to the age where you can talk about seeing the Beatles performing live one has a far greater appreciation of the contribution of others to our society than when you are too young even to have seen Mission Impossible in the cinema. Arthur C Clarke also died yesterday. I suppose that's another 'who?' from most members of this forum. That's a damn shame, Malchik. Some won't know him for his films. Fewer will know his obscenely hopeful novels. "Obscenely" here is a cynic's compliment, btw. Hopefully some will know him for his connection to the name Kubrick. Failing that, it's their loss. samroski
Malchik, or whom it may concern... what about establishing a RIP topic thread thingy? Lots of 'relevent' folk seem to be falling off their perches these days.My two bit on this: The thing is that maybe the entire computer industry is a bit young, and enough of the big names haven't passed away yet (though they are starting- wish I could remember where- but I saw a couple of obituaries on index pages of a couple of sites recently) Anyway- as soon as the big guns start to pop- there are likely to be need for regular RIP threads -imagine Braben, Bell, Carmack, Romero, guys who were my heroes in the 80s and 90s - I wish they live forever for all the good times they gave me- but still everyone has to go... In conclusion: my apologies for intrusion in this thread, and for my morbid thoughts, but overall I do not want to log on to nexus and check the RIP forum- any such discussion can take place in the lounge.
