omard1
Hi all, 1st forum post. My name is Scott Davis, living in Silverdale Wa - getting on close to 60 years old. Have been an avid Elder Scrolls fan/player since it was first started ~1994 (DOS version) Old computer would not begin to touch requirements needed for Oblivion, but thankfully it finally crapped out so I could justify replacing. Replacement Compaq sr2170nx 3GHz Pentium4 1GB RAM 160GB hard drive. Added second Gig of RAM - so now have 2GB. On board video is ATI Radeon Xpress 1100. Tried to start up Oblivion, which I have had since first released, but could not even get started because of a very "draggy" and slow moving mouse. Realizing I probably in great need of video upgrade, I ordered a: HIS Radeon ICEQ3 X1650 Pro 500MHZ 512MB 800MHZ 128BIT DDR2 PCI-E VGA DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card Which was well within my approved budget from wife... On sale now at tigerdirect for $54.99 ($30 rebate) Specs: Model Brand HIS Hightech Model H165PRQ512N-R Interface Interface PCI Express x16 Chipset Chipset Manufacturer ATI GPU Radeon X1650PRO Core clock 600MHz PixelPipelines 12 Memory Memory Clock 800MHz Memory Size 512MB Memory Interface 128-bit Memory Type GDDR2 3D API DirectX DirectX 9 OpenGL OpenGL 2.0 Ports D-SUB 1 DVI 1 TV-Out HDTV Out VIVO No General Tuner None RAMDAC 400 MHz Max Resolution 2560 x 1600 RoHS Compliant Yes Cooler With Fan Dual-Link DVI Supported Yes Features Features CrossFire supportUltra-threaded SM 3.0 EngineATI AvivoHigh Precision Architecture IceQ cooling technology Packaging Package Contents H165PRQ512N-RDriver DiskUser ManualDiskHDTV CableS-Video CableDVI to VGA/D-sub AdapterS-Video to Composite AdapterBracket Manufacturer Warranty Parts 1 year limited Labor 1 year limited Please tell me this is going to run Oblivion in a reasonable fashion. I have a number of "tweak" guides standing by to be ready when needed. There are so many...hopefully someone here can let me know "key" ones to watch out for. Have both "Official" and "Unofficial" updates/patches downloaded and ready to apply, unless somebody tells me good reason not to. Would also like to know what are some good starter mods that make game much more playable, but not hindering either performance or good gameplay. Don't know if this is right place to post. If not forgive me, as I am entirely new to forum. Thx Respectfully, Scott (OmarD)

bben46
Welcome to tesnexusIt's nice to see another player nearly as old as me here(the 46 after my screen name is not my age, its the year I was hatched). I didn't discover the series until Oblivion. I feel I missed a lot by not playing the precursors. A warning, It's going to crash. Everyone has occasional crashes while playing Oblivion. Playing with mods can increase the probability and frequency of crashing. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use mods though. I have over 70 installed and rarely see a crash. I recommend getting both OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager) and OBSE (Oblivion script extender) OBMM makes managing your installed mods much easier, and many newer mods require OBSE to run. The OBSE allows mod makers to do things that Bethesda never dreamed could be done with Oblivion. As to tweak guides, I recommend Koroush Ghazi's Tweak guide, available at http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html. Last updated in October so its relatively up to date. Its much more comprehensive than most of the others and also points you to tweak guides specifically for major types of video boards. I printed it out and refer to it from time to time as specific problems occur.
Malchik
Welcome to the forum. I'd play part of Ob first to get an idea what it's about before adding too many mods. That way you know what each mod does and whether you like it or not. There are several hint sites out there but I also think it's a good idea to learn a bit through trial and error. Just be prepared to start again if you get it wrong. BTW save with a named game just before you exit the sewers or you'll be playing the tutorial too often. Chesto
Now get yerself over to the Newbies and introduce yerself, omard1. That's where they really release the hounds. Close to 60 doesn't count. I know. Just tack 48 onto the end of my tag. bben46 is SO old. But I always read his stuff!

Game did have a blowup shortly after exiting sewers...??? - hopefully some more advanced "tweaking" will solve that problem. OBMM and OBSE downloaded. Reposted initial thread over to "newbies" :thanks: Thanks much to all. Scott (Ha, Ha...not the oldest dog on block like on my other favorite forums!!!) Tamujiin
Welcome to Oblivion Sir. Dont listen to that crap about go over to newbies. Only newbies go there. I want to suggest some other mods for you to download and a way to search for them with out spending alot of time looking for stuff. Look at the top100 and start from the top..Midas magic Arum is great obviously. Akantosh mount is great Lost paladins of the divine. Excellent.Verona's Bloodlines awsome. Armoury of conan ( yes it is spelled right )Anything Adonnays, Exnem Body replacer if you play a female, if not for the Eye candy the amount of Armor's people have made. And some simple advice from a simple man, Dont Download something without a screen shot, and if need be read the comments.............AND ALWAYS ALWAYS READ THE READ ME FIRST> it will tell you of conflicts. Also if you can set your settings to ultra high good, if you cant, turn off HDR lighting , Either way Download Natural envirments and Better night sky. And just so you know All of the unique landscapes are good for just hanging around while yer making a snack. Just remeber to read the read me and use OBMM to test for conflicts. I run around 60 mods on my computer and none conflict with each other majorly. The only mod i have gotten that wont work is the key chain. Also if you want a new User interface try DarnifedUI or DarkifiedUI ( not sure on names, close to that though. ) , it makes the dialogue smaller, Map almost full screen makes it look like a computer game. Not a console game. On my machine none of these Decrease performance at all, or at least i can notice. THERE IS A TON OF STUFF TO CHECK OUT HERE AND ON PES ( planet elderscrolls ) tesnexus has a limit on file size. PES doesn't. SO check out both sights. TESnexus is best for me cause it DL's faster. I wish thee great adventures in the land of Cyrodill, and the realms of oblivion. ( and shivering isle .......get that expansion from your nearest GAMES DEALER< knights of the nine also!) Talk at yah later,P.s if yah like Violence....Deadly Reflex! And to all you old guy gamers out there! You guys are the bomb! i am not the oldest anymore!
