doomjockey
Ok. It's sad to see this section for the arts go unfulfilled, especially when we've so many talented individuals here. I love art. It's my obsession. And I'd like to see a few cooperative projects go out. This is a call, a plea if you will, to bring a little sun to the Druid's Garden. The goal is to regularly and reliably produce meritorious works of art. Meritorious? Because even though I'm aiming for doable projects, you shouldn't walk into this thinking it's easy. Now, none are huge projects: "small and doable". That's the name of the game. And notice I didn't say quick works of art. "Small and doable", yes. Rushed? Not bloody likely (unless of course you're quick and good). I'm thinking something like a biweekly, low panel comic. Or chain story. Or even a chain comic. If you've "small and doable" ideas, this is the time and place to present them. I know this forum exists primarily for modders (who are often busy) so although I do hope some of you will want to participate, I know time constraints might not allow it. If you do have the time, but are unsure how to contribute, we can discuss that. I also know some of you, like me, just enjoy the community and I say to you that the flowers of a Druid's Garden should still blossom so everyone can bask in their inspirations. Poems, stories, fan-fiction, drawings, etc. don't have to be about Oblivion or The Elder Scrolls. As you can see, I've meager skills with art and metaphor and I think everyone has at least the desire to create something that everyone can enjoy. Let's sit down and discuss what we can accomplish together. So if you can draw, I'm calling on you. If you can write, I'm calling on you. If you can create, I'm calling on you. And remember, these are only my ideas. I await the presentation of yours. A few guidelines: 1. As always, only serious people need apply. 2. Ideas are great. Nothing begins without an idea. However be expected to bring something more to the table than just the idea.3. Although the goals are focused on "small and doable" projects, please don't volunteer your time if you do not have the time to spare. I know you mean well, but it won't help in the long run. Drop-outs and rushed projects haphazardly slapped together at the last minute won't help anyone.4. Communication is a must. You're input is not only welcome, but necessary. Expect to regularly interact with your partner(s). If you can't get online often, this probably isn't something for you.5. Either bring or learn the skills necessary to create your project. If you plan a comic/drawing, know or learn how to work a scanner/image editor. If you plan a story/poem, know or learn how to work English/word processors/spell check. And in case none are interested... This will be a regular post. Here's some art of mine. -Tony, doomjockey http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q93/anthonydpitts/Orcs.png
crazydave
I definatly agree. By my count there have only been four posts in the past week, and thats just sad. Right now, I have about eight different stories floating around in my head, unfortunatly I have NO writing skills at all. But I used to be a decent artist. I'm not entirely sure if I have the free time to comit, so I guess I won't bother with officially signing up (yet). Im still going to do my part to plant a few flowers, and I'll start by posting some of my old pics... just as soon as I find them. Edit: I forgot to say nice job on the pic. Marcus Wolfe
I think I could provide a weekly comic strip (hell, I could produce a DAILY comic strip if I made the effort). I've already uploaded it to here, take a look and tell me what you think
doomjockey
Guideline 4 almost screwed me when I woke up this morning sans internet. Anyway! Glad to see you guys have shown some interest. I definatly agree. By my count there have only been four posts in the past week, and thats just sad. Right now, I have about eight different stories floating around in my head, unfortunatly I have NO writing skills at all. But I used to be a decent artist. Im still going to do my part to plant a few flowers, and I'll start by posting some of my old pics... just as soon as I find them. Edit: I forgot to say nice job on the pic. Even if you decline to formally participate, I think you should always post something. I'd definitely like to see some art/literature before you write yourself off so quickly. We can get an idea of your current proficencies. Be brave, be bold. Let's be supportive without fear of rejection. I think I could provide a weekly comic strip (hell, I could produce a DAILY comic strip if I made the effort). I've already uploaded it to here, take a look and tell me what you think Wolfe, absolutely love that strip. Funny as hell. I think I read through eight pages so far and it's 2am. Definitely think we could put out at least a comic. I think you could definitely fulfill the role of a writer. Also, I appreciate the eagerness, but daily projects will not happen. At least not for me because of work and obligations. But it's your call, of course since it's your series. I'll also ask anyone else interested to submit an example based upon what they wabt to do. Writers submit written works, artists submit pics, etc. Don't be shy. Show us what you got. Malchik
I have posted stuff here in the past - one of my monologues and a few poems. It's not really the ideal place unless there are several like-minded souls. These days I send plays and my fantasy story to individuals who express interest via pm or the internet. However here is a song from my musical comedy 'Did I Sing Too Loud?' The theatrical director B.L. Zeebub (known affectionately as BZ (in UK pronunciation that is Bee Zed) explains why directing is a pain in the butt. No.2 BZ'S LECTURE - A DIRECTOR'S LOT BZ If you're wanting a job that is pure enjoyment With excellent prospects, secure employment A job that will bring you in plenty of money Around friendly people, both clever and funny One likely to raise you to permanent fame So that all of the world is aware of your name Without any stress, where you never feel blue Don't become a director. It isn't for you.CHORUS Oh come off it BZ, don't be such a wally Try being an actor. Now that's pure folly. BZ Say the author is rich and puts up lots of money To perform his own comedy, though it's not funny Or perhaps he's come up through the school of hard knocks And has buried it deeply in endless raw shocks Or p'raps it's a metaphor, where death's beneath The continual clack of 'Our Granddad's' false teeth Whatever his problems, the play is a mess But who gets told off? Well, I'm sure you can guess.CHORUS The director's the one who interprets the text And you change your mind from one day to the next! BZ The treasurer tells you the budget is minimal The stage must be bare and the lighting subliminal In fact, if you're not in the first front two rows You won't see much more than the lead actor's nose Oh the whole thing may be a delight to the ear But a play's to be seen, not just something you hear The cost-cutting kills off the play in a week They're in need of a scapegoat. You know who they'll seek.CHORUS You'd know about that long before you'd begun it If you couldn't comply then you shouldn't have done it. BZ An actor so famous he's played every role Condescendingly says, for the good of his soul, He will act in your sad little piece, as it's novel And grandly expects you to curtsey or grovel He won't make rehearsals - he knows what to do The few times he appears, he won't listen to you The rest of the cast have no clue what he's doing. So who stops the buck of the audience booing?CHORUS You know what they're like when you offer them roles Your excuse is a cop out, it's shot through with holes. BZ Up there, in the lighting box, they're on the sherry They'll f*** up the cues but at least they'll be merry The props have gone missing, the sound system's s**t The lead lady's late and her costume won't fit The tall sultry lover will quickly be seen As he is in real life, just a tired old queen Influenza has struck - half the cast is infected And who's fault is that? It's the sap who directed.CHORUS Stop BZ, we're all at the end of our tether Your job as director's to hold it together!
Chesto
I'm going to be watching this thread with interest. I could offer to supply organic pizzas, for your break times. Though, being a PC/WEB cretin, I might have difficulty figuring out which of the PC's many orifices would be the one to use. It might get messy. doomjockey
I've gotta say, we're gathering a decent confluence of talent here. Not bad at all crazydave, at least you seem able to implement the basic concepts of design. If you wish to bone up, I know of a few sites with some basic helpful tips- easy stuff, don't worry. I'm not gonna make you read a book or anything. "Small and Doable" A few more questions: how proficient are you with color? Would you be comfortable producing art of similar quality on a weekly/bi-weekly basis? Would you feel at all comfortable doing say a three or four panel strip? If you've a pic to answer the "color" question, by all means, repost. Mr Wolfe you say, you're able to produce on a weekly basis? That would be excellent indeed. You would do well to partner with an artist of like mind. Did you have any ideas for a new strip? We can develop something suited to the artist's skill level. Malchik, just wow. That's superb and I'm guessing you hear that often. We could definitely use your writing ability, but I'm thinking for something other than a comic unless you had one in mind. Perhaps, a chain story? With skill, it's not too challenging to submit additions on a regular basis. Chesto, ten to one it'll be the USB. I poured a bit of Guinness there and saw many lights flash. That's good, right? It seems promising. Now, everyone take a look at the guidelines again and answer these questions in your mind (not in post). Has your situation changed in the past few days? Can you work the necessary tools for the area of interest? Can you dedicate the necessary time? If this is our group, we'll move forward soon and I'll be asking you to review these often. It's just to make sure you won't be straining yourself at any time with unrealistic expectations. Ideas? Suggestions? Preferences?

I dont do color very well, infact most of my work is done with an ordinary ball point pen. I cant really make any promises at the moment, but I have begun a new project. It's a webcomic that I hope will be availible on a bi-weekly scheduel.
