ohGr
ok, this is happening in australia, but even if you dont live in australia, feel free to comment (i am an foriegner...wait....hmm...bah!) ok, on the news i noticed that the australian government is going to ban meat pies from school cafeterias, because they are causing obesity in todays youth, now, i completely disagree with this, because if the government is to ban them, then he might as well, ban chips, chocolate muffins *drool*, and various other products, at my school, every friday the school have pizzas (little ones), and this could have a dramatic effect on how much money the school will make, although, since i go to a private school (i am not rich), this has no effect on me, but, its unfair for the other schools, they will be loosing money through the cafeterias since people will be sitting there asking themselves "vegetable sandwich....cucumber...water....nuts to this, i want meat woman! what do you think of this decision the government is making? ShinJiOh
yes, OhGr im supprised you only just heard that is REALLY old news however every school child was predicting the loss of revenue at school canteens or tuckshops(im sorry cafeteria is so americanised), this angers me...being an australain and all i have seen the menu's the only things non fat were milks(kinda), sandwiches and the lasagne(which may still go) i wonder however if that rather unwise man leading us thought about the diabetics in this country.... meybe it's for the best, this will also reduce the amount of rubbish left on the fileds, however IMO there will just be an increase in kids eating their packed lunches, which will still contain the junkfood. Buying food from the supermarket is also a cheaper way to do it so thekids have more pocket money... the school however... will be stuffed because i know of a canteen that hire's somebody to work there and will no longer afford it and many school rely on the canteen to pay for p&c items. This just means that, there will be yet another increase in school costs., oh f*% off :angry2:
Switch
Well, obesity is a problem, but if a kid eats enough to become obese they're gunna keep eating out of school anyway. And like you said they can just have packed lunches full of junk instead. Methinks cutting out fatty foods at school cafeterias is a bad move. I mean, the food there is ghastly enough already, last thing that's needed is for it to get any worse! :P And like you said, people will just simply stop having school lunches, thus losing funds for the school. Given a choice a kid won't choose veggie burgers over a ham sandwich with extra cheese :P well most wouldn't at least. I hope your government is smart enough to realise that :P I can see where they're coming from but in the long run methinks it would do more bad than good. Reborn87
Does this apply to high schools and primary schools? I go to Grovedale College In Victoria (state school) and this is the first that I'd heard about this. If they ban meat pies from our school canteen, their is going to be some serious rioting my friends!!!
Iluventi
Ppphh...I go to The Gap State in Brisbane....I can't see them getting around to banning em actually....they'd have so many peeved off teenagers on their hands..
ohGr
bah, i go to dodgy ivanhoe grammar, and our head of sport is a complete looney, in fact, hes my PE teacher, and i always get into arguments with him, normally because i dont wear school PE uniform, just old clothes, and im not paying $200 for a poor quality shirt and shorts so i can run around, but i dont think this ban applies to private schools, so you public school people have to live with it, if it happens to all. ShinJiOh
To answer the question of will it be both high and primary... yes, i dont know if it's only public schools but if it is... meh empty threat no-ones goin anywhere. Yes, all public kids were rather p1553d at the time when they heard it, they're still pretty p1553d but there is nothing that can be done except move to a private school.... but are they safe from the evil mans reign of terror.... :shifty:
Muennin
"nuts to this...I want meat woman!" Personally, I've never had a meat pie-not quite sure what that is!? Is it something akin to an American chicken pie (with substituted mammal) ? Regardless, this policy sounds horrendous to my ears. When a govermental policy chooses to remove the availability of any product, especially one so fundamental as food, clothing, shelter, etc., I cannot regard the action as anything but WRONG. Peregrine
what do you think of this decision the government is making? It's absolute stupidity. But our civilization has fallen to the point where nobody can be responsible for their own mistakes. It can't be the kids choice to eat unhealty food, not exercise, etc. And it especially can't be the parents fault for not doing something about it. And just to make it worse, this looks very much like a political move to satisfy some insane minority. Why ban just one item? It makes no sense, and its definitely not going to make a major change in anything. So the only conclusion is that political benefit has overruled sanity once agian. When a govermental policy chooses to remove the availability of any product, especially one so fundamental as food, clothing, shelter, etc., I cannot regard the action as anything but WRONG. Not in all cases. If a product is considered too dangerous for some reason, they are perfectly justified in banning or restricting it. But that's not the case here. I don't see any evidence that this one item is any worse than all the other unhealty food out there. And banning it isn't going to do anything to change the lifestyle that produces obesity. So as I said, the only benefit that can be seen to banning this (and only this) is that politicians get a better chance of reelection.
Muennin
Please don't get me wrong. I wasn't speaking of all cases, but, more directly this specific post.
