drdragent
When I installed Skyrim and bunch of mods HDTs 4K textures ENB etc. I had a little to no lag at 2K screen resolution. I switched to Full HD to have stable 60FPS.Now, a few months later the same installation is having really bad lag. I mean 5-15 FPS. The only change in the mods is one or two extra armor mods and nothing else.I checked my Windows Task Manager and I'm no where near using my full Processor. When I checked it it was at about 5% usage.I have Intel Core i7-6700KCPU @ 4GHz, MEI GTX 1070 with 8GB Ram and 32GB Ram on my motherboard.I don't see any reason for the game to be lagging be it Ram, GPU or CPU but it is and it's unplayable. Can anyone suggest anything? Any solutions? Thanks in advance.
iXenite
Skyrim technically will never use your full CPU - it is pretty well limited to 1 or 2 cores. However, your CPU usage is really low - at least compared to mine. Although your CPU is also a much better CPU than mine - so maybe that has something to do with it. I suggest downloading something like MSI Afterburner or NZXT's CAM to try and analyze your PC's performance and see what is going on when you play the game. Also, make sure the game is actually using your GPU and not your integrated graphics. Getting 5 - 15fps with a GTX 1070 and an i7 6700k is really bad for a game as old as Skyrim. Go to your Nvidia control panel and make sure your using your GPU - and also consider forcing that setting for Skyrim specifically as well just to be sure. Project579
I don't think he has an integrated GPU... and even if he did he couldn't have used it without moving the monitor to the mobo video output. The i7 6700k does have an iGPU. I know with laptops that some games may switch to the iGPU rather than using your dedicated GPU, I see no real reason why a desktop would be different. But I could be wrong on that. However, considering the framerate OP is getting while playing Skyrim it would certainly seem like that is what is going on. Project579
Laptops can switch between one and the other GPU because the video output of the graphics cards is handled by the mobo the screen in laptops with dual GPU is actually connected with both the integrated GPU and the dedicated but on desktops is physically impossible to use both cards without and external adapter. Well I guess I learned something today. Thanks. If it isn't the iGPU then I have no clue why his performance would be so horrendously horrible. It's not like his CPU is being pushed really hard since it's at only 5% load, so I suppose that can't be it. Now the OP never mentioned what his GPU load was at, but I would assume it would need to be at abnormally low load to have such bad performance right? Project579
drdragent has something changed since the last time you played the game (windows updates, driver updates etc.)?
twiztedmongoloid
6700k does indeed have integrated gpu. For performance issues i would do the following. Return to vanilla and check performance. make sure PC is virus free and in good health. Run some pc benchmarks to make sure its performing as it should (like firestrike) This will tell you if its your mods or some issue with your PC weather that be virus or hardware. I have a 3570k and my cpu usage is around 60% usually. Pretty heavily modded.
drdragent
drdragent has something changed since the last time you played the game (windows updates, driver updates etc.)? The only thing that changed were the NVIDIA drivers that were recommended. I installed 2 or 3 versions over those few months.Other than that I moved my PC to a new location. (After moving it is when I first noticed an FPS drop but it was 45-55 FPS at the time so I wasn't too concerned. It's not like the geographical location of the PC should change anything anyway.)
