Goodfortitude
I have several landscape mods and I am thinking about "opening some Oblivion gates all over." Will that cause crashes or other problems? The mods are mostly Ultimate Landscape mods. Also, are there any mods that will clean all those gates up afterward, as I can't stand the mess it makes to the areas. thanksgf
Goodfortitude
Hasn't anyone else installed some of the Ultimate Landscape mods and then started the main quest? I have to wonder how the gates would "know" where to pop up. Or, whether or not they might pop up beneath the new ground or under a new hill or way up in the air? Or, maybe it would just crash the game.
nosisab
I had one recent issue regarding oblivion portal and modified area nearby. The troubles started as the sigil stone is took and the game CTD just after the loading screen. In trying to solve the issue I warped with success using the Midas Recall spell, and the game proceed as normal until I approach that gate area. So a big part of Skingraad area is taboo to this character now. As it was just a mod testing character, specially designed to concept proof my own mod Afinity sword, and cheated is several ways, that was not a bitter loss (in this case I observed some instabilities near the dead oblivion portal on Kvatch using the KR mod, previous KA mod under another character don't show problems), and got a dead savegames entering a active one near the farm related to the quest of getting workers from the count Skingraad. Yet I don't know if it is the landmass or the very quests the cause of the issue). It is to be noted than uninstalling the several mods that could be related to the problem don't solved the savegame issue and so this character would not be useful to normal playing anymore. I can't blame this or that mod as culprit in this special case where so much factors and complications arose and could potentially cause the issue. But it is connected with the way the engine deal with the randomization of the gates, I'm sure.
Vagrant0
Oblivion gates are not randomly spawned, they appear in certain, specific places. I would imagine that the UL team ether maintained, or moved those locations. The only problem with this is that if you have a game which was saved with any gate currently active in that area (or inside one of those gates) the game may have errors upon trying to process the related door infomation. But if you are using those mods, you really should be using a new game to begin with since caves, and other structures will have the same issues, and changes to a landscape when NPCs are around can be really bad. nosisab
Vagrant0, makes sense, but in the said case, the character was in a mission, come from Kvatch to Skingraad castle and was intercept by a monk kind NPC who redirected her to a nearby farm. After locating the house the PC got attacked by a pack of wolves and in the process located the gate. So there she go, entered as normal, did her way to the tower top and got the sigil stone, and all goes havoc after this. The game CTD just after loading the area, entering that same area is enough to CTD (as possible if warping away the oblivion plane with Midas Recall spell). Well, this is not the place to discuss this specific issue, just terminating, maybe is not even a landmass related issue, maybe it is a quest script issue flared exactly by entering the area, since don't seems to be a localized activator problem, for sure is a cell related problem, and just happens with the games saved under those conditions, as no new or even other saved chars seems to flare the problem by entering the area.
