Environment non-existent, appears after a few seconds

I tried googling this problem, but I was just flooded with results where people were talking about textures being low res for longer than they should.

Often as I'm running around in the wasteland the environment won't load properly and I'm staring at empty space. It's like the buildings, roads, cars etc don't exist, but they appear after 2-15 seconds.

This used to only gradually happen long into a save game, but now it's happening even early on. Not using any enb/reshade, large texture overhauls or weather mods. Going to download the Vivid texture series and see if that helps...

Is anybody familiar with this issue?

Edit: The vivid series didn't seem to help. Think it made it worse o.O

Depends on what exactly you mean with "environment non-existent".

Are the surroundings flickering in- and out of view with holes in the ground through which you can see deeper layers of the game, or is it that the ground and and water shows but what's on it -like grass, trees, car wrecks, houses, etc., isn't rendered but comes into view after a while?

Yeah the second one. I can see the ground, but I have to wait a bit before all of the other stuff appears.

What are your computer specs (CPU, GPU type and RAM) because I fear it might have to do with low specs that have trouble loading the textures...

I don't think this is a hardware issue because I didn't have this problem to this extent a few months ago. Even when I did have it, it was something that happened gradually long into a save game.

i7-2600, GTX 960 & 8gb RAM.

Nah, defenitely not a hardware issue...

Then I haven't got a clue, I'm afraid :(

It could be indicative of a problem caused by adding and removing mods during your playthrough (if you've been doing that) - unfortunately that would mean you'd probably have to abandon that save.

Or it could be an issue related to the type or number of mods you use.

Other than removing all your mods, starting a new game (get past the pre-war section and out of vault 111) and seeing if the issue still occurs, I've no idea what is causing this for you.
