Vaultec DLC kinda sucks

Playing this now and was stuck down there for two in game days with piper until I finally loaded and earlier save and knew what I wanted to do then built about 25% of the main atrium and overseers office with desk then left to do other things. I have some gripes about this DLC gonna list them here.

Bad lighting

Yeah there are mods for this but they have bugs so I have to stick with other workshop light mods to avoid the other mod bugs for now.

Boring

It is totally boring down there and combine that with the bad lighting it gets worse so glad I got scrap everything mod though.

They should have done X or Y

The main atrium room should have been build with some quarters built already to give players an idea about what to do and how to do it instead of just dumping a bunch of stuff on us.

Some of the pieces don't look right

I went to vault 81 and started some quests there so I could get a look around and see how the lighting looks and placement of things. The pieces in this DLC are not the same as the vanilla vault parts I can see greebled variations of the atrium ceiling parts and the wall parts look different things like that. Doors should not open top to bottom there is no room for that long top part to go when another door in the room just above it is in the way. They should have made the doors slide left and right like on the elevator doors. I guess a mod will fix it sooner or later. There should have been atrium corner pieces so we could make a giant plus sign with the atrium ceilings so they could go both ways instead of just one way and a middle ceiling piece too. The way it works now there is no way to use atrium ceilings except that one way and close together.

The placement of this vault is really terrible

Really beth REALLY? Right there in a dump site full of radioactive barrels and they expect settlers to just mozy on in there? Who would be dumb enough to go in there knowing the raiders live there and why hasn't the radiation killed the raiders yet? Should have been supermutants living there instead it would have made sense then but still. I was expecting to find a vault elevator door like 111 got lame things instead.

What they should have done was...

I think they should have put the vault somewhere else they still could have it run under just about everything in the commonwealth and I could see the BoS showing interest in something like this seeing it like a bunker instead of a vault. Maybe the player could have some quests to help the BoS move in there and it causes enemies to not attack anymore since BoS protecting the place if the player sided with them.

indeed, it looks like you've seen a few of the Youtuber reviews

petard, oxhorn, alcapaul etc...

yeah, it will take a fair bit of time to line everything up, unless you have the

'place anywhere' mod, which lets you type the exact turn numbers in... even then, its a solid chunk of time.

I enjoyed the story of Vault-Tec DLC, and it's a bit of fun to see an evil ghoul overseer.

that said, the quarry placement and large irradiated area near there, as well as the short distance to

quincy red rocket etc...

it's very tempting to put in several other entrances to that vault and seal over the front area entirely.

also, even with the vault-tec DLC, several assets still aren't buildable... its a shame that stuff was put behind a paybarrier.

a lot of folks bypassed the Vault-Tec DLC, and went with several 'build your own vault"

mods. with 'any door anywhere' -

you can link a door to the other world cell, and make your vault pretty much anywhere, with any entrance.

some have made FO3/FONV style doors and interior parts,

so you can make some stuff resemble that.

you could put a shack/bunker (snap'n'build or greekrage) above the vault site,

and have that elevator any door any where through to a matching cargo elevator in the vault cell,

or, you can get adventurous with the University Point reborn mod,

and map the university point underground to the chemist part of the vault,

via the "enclave tunnel system" etc,

and have a few entrances elsewhere,

you could even connect the vault near quincy to the

underwater Poseidon vault/dome which you can see.

several enclave players have made a very large 'under-boston' area,

replete with a feral gang hideout lair near the financial district.

so, a lot of folks 'complete' Vault 114, or redesign it's interior and make it a settlement.

Vault 111 is also fun to complete and connect to

Red Rocket North Concord Spa And Resort, UnderSanctuary and the small basement on the edge of sanctuary.

V111 could become a lot more like Maxson in the NCR; a BoS super-bunker.

it would also be ironic if the Enclave had been unable to get the main door open,

and attempted to get into V111 via the subterranean entrance under Red Rocket...

|some other folks elsewhere were working on a way to make some of the doom-style assets through-patible with FO4,

as some of those also a beth title, look AWESOME as FO stuff, particularly the little carts and the industrial stuff.

some simple retextures on the 'panels' would make them more fallout-y.|

This vault is freakin HUGE!!!!!! I explored it all and killed off the enemies still haven't activated the north sector yet or the water pump and I am thinking now I wasted a lot of time stuffing 16 quarters rooms into the atrium area when I could turn a whole sector into quarters rooms for settlers to live in. What I don't really understand is why all that space? I mean after two sectors the east sector and one more there is no real point just build crap and OCD over it all. The lighting really really sucks and the lights appear off when they are on. I have to use lights from other lighting workshop mods to compensate and hate that I can't use those florescent lights. I really hate that this thing leads to a crappy store at university point I was hoping to avoid something like that completely or be able to tear down the store and build a proper vault elevator door entrance there so the vault would have two main doors and clean up that dam waste dump too and build a proper door there too.

@fonger

For real this thing is a super time waster. I didn't know the build barriers would increase by activating the different zone workshops I assumed they would have their own separate build barriers. Now I think I can link stuff together but dam did I waste a lot of time trying to seal off that small rail tunnel to the east before checking those other zones.

I finally get the vault built and connected then started figuring out where the atrium bathrooms and showers would be placed... using CWSS REDUX mod got three toilets done and three showers complete with stalls and sinks and interior rooms for both things so one room is three showers and two sinks and the other room is three toilets and sinks floor mats everything lighting and stuff THEN I made the mistake of NOT SAVING!!!! noticed a wall light was not on and went to pick it up then CTD FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

f*** now I have to do that s*** all over again at least I managed to save after connecting everything but dammit that is an annoying bug!!!!!

I ran out of build limit before I even got near the other side of the water pump area but I didn't do all that crazy s*** like people on youtuve videos I didn't build any structures on or near the water pump just left some turrets near it and sealed off the exit points near there. This DLC can burn someone out real quick now I gotta just stew for a while until I can tolerate finishing it up. I found the exit to the middle of the street near medford memorial hospital AKA supermutant suicider central WTF were they thinking with that exit? I am never gonna use it lol no way I tried it once and almost got blown up right after exiting there. Beep beep beep oh s***!!!! lol managed to pull up the console just in time and tgm those jerks.

I built a pretty nice vault in one of my playthroughs, took me days, then I realized something: why have I done all that? Why bother? Ok, I have the satisfaction of having finished this thing but other than that it's POINTLESS, utterly pointless. Even for building settlement fans, you have this huge area but the settlement size limit will barely be enough to finish the first cave. On my latest playthrough I did the absolute minimum to finish the quest, not a single wall or floor, the vault dwellers are basically cavemen and I love the irony of it.

Yeah it wasn't the best, and I'm one of those settlement building junkies. You really can't make the vaults look good without the help of mods. The lighting is crap, the pieces aren't versatile enough. The textures are absolutely godawful. For one, how does my brand new vault have rust trails? For two, did Vault-Tec honestly think we'd want to look at those terrible cheesy wallpapers for the next century? And then of Bethesda thought it would be a great idea to give us this massive build area with a tiny build limit. Because that wouldn't frustrated anybody.

So right off the bat, you need Place Anywhere just to make the build kit work. Then you'll need something Vault Corners Plus or Modular Vault 88 rooms so your rooms don't feel like madhouse cells. Then you'll need a retex--right now, there are no good ones so I'm running with a buggy WIP of my own. Then you need a lighting mod. Then you need a mod/console command/exploit to get around the build limit.

Beyond that, the vault areas are pretty crappy to build with. There's the main chamber, which is the main chamber, but then the off sectors are just dildos to work with. The cell-based vault structures really don't allow for the utilization of natural structures in your designs (god that sounds pretentious) so all those glorious rock structures and tunnels a) go to waste and b) get in the way. You end up having to build these long, boring hallways that lead to maybe one or two rooms, followed by more long-boring hallways.

I found out the wide halls don't have any snap points for power conduits the hard way after using a lot of wide hall pieces. I was getting all BoS bunker feels from this DLC after building with those pieces for a while then I finally finished a lot of stuff still haven't decorated all the quarters in the atrium yet just two and I'm off to hallucigen for the second overseer quest. I decided to take care of some MM business at some settlements first and I tried to go to sanctuary to store some stuff and CTD!!!!!! I now have that damned bug with sanctuary never had it before until now. Been playing the game since it came out and first time I ever got that bug. I tried dancing around the edges of sanctuary to see if I could slowly creep in there but nope. I can get close enough to where most of the settlement is rendered but the bulk of things not loading are just after the player house close to that curve in the street heading out of town. Once I get too close to that or look at it too closely CTD every time well, more like freeze and I have to hit ctrl alt del to get task manager and there is a message of the program has stopped responding when I close that the game exits. I've tried coc command too it does the same crashing.
