Modding scene not dead?

There was a big flare up in this forum a few months ago about whether the Fallout 4 modding scene was dead/moribund. The main argument was as follows: Fallout script extender isn't complete yet, and the numbers are just as good as Fallout 3. Of course, I'm not privy to first-year numbers fro Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas or Skyrim, but the earliest I started playing relative to release date was New Vegas, which I got in October 2012 which was two years. But by that time, there was already mods like New Vegas Bounties I&II and companions like Willow as well as Project Nevada and Classic Fallout Weapons. I know because these were mods I was playing on my first game.

Now I got this clip from Someguy2000:

Granted this was from May, but he's been gone ever since. And this news is very new to me. Someguy, of course, isn't the end all be all of the modding scene but he is one of the best. His mods are phenomenal and Fallout 4 desperately needs mods like his to preserve shelf life. So everything he's complaining about in Fallout 4, that is the more he plays it, the more he hates it, it has no replay value in and of itself, and he can't even get excited about Far Harbor, such is his disillusionment is everything I was going through after Automation. Automation is a subpar DLC, which has all the sins of the base game, which only compounds the bad taste.

I want to beg him to mod in some content anyway, because this game, like Fallout 3, is f*#@ing terrible vanilla

I see there is one really good companion, Ellen the Cartographer, and at least two good quests, Penn's Woods and Maxwell's World. So, where is the Project Nevada? And ClassiucFallout Weapons? Are they even being developed? Let's be frank, what makes New Vegas a classic isn't just it's great writing, but Project Nevada's gameplay additions and tweaks.

I will come back if/when there's a Classic Fallout Weapons and PN/FWE overhaul, but not before. I'm just concerned that most people at this point won't come back. It's been over a year now and long time fans were not impressed by Fallout 4. Hell I'd pushed Fallout 4 is to the edges of my mind until Obsidian announced Project Lousiana, which is obviously going to be Pillars of Eternity 2, but I wanted so bad to be Fallout New Orleans. Because I've played New Vegas to death over the last four years. I have a couple of quest mods I want to do yet, and then I'm done.

James is gone because he is dealing with his whatever job nonsens and on top of that, he's probably in his drunk depressive period. He does that all the time and we kinda learn to live with it. Also, we got two major game releases atm and only 3 people working on extenders. What makes PN great is the additions, such as sprint and rebalancing. We need no sprint, grenade key.. etc. A lot of those features are not needed.

Also, when you play a game at shitty quality with 20 fps you kinda hate it. I know I would.

Wow, his computer is that bad?

And yeah, there are things that Fallout 4 incorporated from PN, but there are things still needed. Putting back in normal crticals, making headshots lethal at least on humans, and banking critical shots from non-VATS hits, and generally making not just the character die quick, but enemies dying quick, except things like sentry bots and Mirelurk Queens. Those should be sponges.

Etheron,

Jesus. I haven't watched but, if that's true, that a sign from common sense to take a break. I still thnink he's right about Fallout 4. Then again, he also said you can be a gamer who occassionaly mods or a modder who occaosionally games but not both, so maybe, just maybe, the suckage won't knock him out of the game.

I do have reason to wonder about other modders. I tried learning how to mod New Vegas and it was...awful. But that game made me want to learn to mod. This game? It doesn't, not at all. I have no desire to ever play the vanilla experience again. This game is Star Wars Prequel bad in everything but the combat, and even combat gets dull very quickly without context and character.

Fkemann,

Those look good, not quite enough on their own. I've actually heard good things about Tales from the Commonwealth. The ones I'm actually excited about are the ones where you can spare the Railroad in Institute and Brotherhood endings.

For me, the game fits well in the fallout universe. I have the criticism on fallout 4 never understood because it is still young compared to the other fallouts and it have also a story where you easily can build your own story in. Especially since the other fallouts just before, or afterwards play. So even story-crossovers are possible.

It's mostly either mindless shootout or mindless build out. I don't want to make up a story in my mind, I wanted a story to discover.. if I wanted to make up my own stories I'd go RP.

I've spent almost 900hrs in FO4 and havn't even reached the institute yet!! I just don't care about the "story". I only play to explore and see what weird s*** I can find. Like this puzzle I'm trying to solve to get in a bunker up north. Also, I'm playing with the War Never Changes gameplay overhaul mod. It really changes some aspects of gameplay. For instance; Your character and enemies are no longer bullet sponges, the perk tree is redone, followers are a little better, ext.

Well, I like to build my settlements :), or to explore. In Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 I enjoy more the sitequests, as the mainquests. Only the New Vegas mainstory is good in my opinion, but that makes f3 and f4 not to bad games for me.
