Graphics card help.

Recommended Posts

Thanks very much everyone for your input, its been very helpful. At the moment i'm leaning towards the GTX 570 as im not plainning a sli setup and there's quite a difference in price between the 570 and 580. Is the 570 a big step up from the radeon 5770? Do you think the 570 would handle something like Skyrim on ultra high running in 1080p? (maybe with high res texture mods too) Also i think i would need to update the power supply what wattage would people recommend? I was thinking 900, comfortably enough?

Thanks again for advice so far :)

yes it would, my own GTX 470, which is slightly less powerful, runs skyrim 1080p @45-60^ FPS constantly, never dropping below that. but I also use TESVAL.

I also think a 900W PSU would be overkill, something more towards 750-850 range, depending on your PC components other than the ones you listed.

ya, skyrim isnt as graphic intensive as ppl like to think it is. a 560ti could probably run it on Ultra. or at least very high.

also agree on the PSU, 850W would be all you need and that is still a comfortable overhead. i recommend a Corsair HX850W or AX850W or something from Seasonic.

  • 2 weeks later...

When you look at your MOBO stats you have the option of a ~3 way SLI (Scalable Link Interface)

that a possible 3 GPU's all crunching game/image data.

It is possible to Link 3 Mid range GPU and get similar results provided they are configurable that way.

Though you want to be an UBER nerd or know one to try I guess..!? :wallbash:

Were you planning on doing a multi-monitor set-up? If so, you will probably want to go with a GTX580 with 3GB of VRAM (extra headroom for RAM is usually a good idea) otherwise I would go with a 560Ti or a 570. Also, you will probably want to upgrade your PSU, just to make sure that your system will provide adequate power.

Below are just some cards I recommend if you decide to actually go ahead and buy any of the cards you mentioned above:
