worm82075
Not many things in this world speak directly to one's soul. True love and true friendship are very hard to come by so what is one to do. Well, to quote Mentor Williams, "Gimme the beat, boys, and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rockin roll and Drift Away" Music is probably one of the most important aspects of healthy spirituality as it enables a dialog with the soul, and that is right up there with laughter and rem sleep. Without these three outlets, one would surely go mad. I have embraced that dialog as something of a necessity. Through the years there have been many songs that spoke directly to me through music alone but most of them have been a lyrical dialog. Which brings us to the subject of this thread. I got into Bob Seger when I was but 4 years old because I loved the saxophone, it spoke directly to me and from then on well.. Music has always been there for me to relate to (very important for us outcast loner types), that relationship was built on the heart string pulling melodies and the poetry of song lyrics and was a way for me to understand myself and the world around me. Lyrics most importantly, so now I would like to share with you some of the lyrics that have meant the most to me. When I was about 8 years old my mother saw my connection with music and gave me a song, though she doesn't really know it, that one song determined the course I took and is the reason why a man of my intelligence chose a blue collar lifestyle over that of a white collar one. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man(lyrics included in video)(Gary Rossington - Ronnie Vanzant) Mama told me when I was youngCome sit beside me, my only sonAnd listen closely to what I say.And if you do thisIt will help you some sunny day.Take your time... dont live too fast,Troubles will come and they will pass.Go find a woman and youll find love,And dont forget son,There is someone up above. (chorus)And be a simple kind of man.Be something you love and understand.Be a simple kind of man.Wont you do this for me son,If you can? Forget your lust for the rich mans goldAll that you need is in your soul,And you can do this if you try.All that I want for you my son,Is to be satisfied. (chorus) Boy, dont you worry... youll find yourself.Follow you heart and nothing else. And you can do this if you try.All I want for you my son,Is to be satisfied. As I grew older my interests broadened to include that which is political and philosophical and the one band that spoke to me both musically and lyrically at that time was Black Sabbath. I was a hard rocker what can I say, later on though as my tastes refined I found I could appreciate classical music amongst others as well as hard rock and the flood gates really opened up for bands like Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and an entire host of other music from the 70's. There is so much I could share with you but I will have to narrow it down. Ok, one Sabbath and one Zepplin Black Sabbath - Solotude - Of course What teen would be complete without a failed love interest. My name it means nothingMy fortune is lessMy future is shrouded in dark wildernessSunshine is far away, clouds linger onEverything I possessed - now they are gone Oh where can I go to and what can I do?Nothing can please me only thoughts are of youYou just laughed when I begged you to stayIve not stopped crying since you went away The world is a lonely place - you're on your ownGuess I will go home - sit down and moan.Crying and thinking is all that I doMemories I have remind me of you Often very cryptic and full of fantasy Led Zeppelin really sparks the imagination when it comes to Robert Plant's lyrics and the melodic classical inspired blues guitar of Jimmy Page. It's easy to get lost in their music and anyone that enjoys the sound of an electric guitar will find many of Jimmy's riffs to be haunting to say the least. Like I said the lyrics are full of fantasy and mythical reference. This is but one verse from their song Ramble OnMines a tale that cant be told,My freedom I hold dear; How years ago in days of oldWhen magic filled the air,Twas in the darkest depths of mordorI met a girl so fair,But gollum, and the evil one crept upAnd slipped away with her. Her, her....yea.Aint nothing I can do, no. a direct JRR reference no doubt. One such song is as follows, but hey what prepubescent boy wasn't fascinated by vikings at one time or another. Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song Ah, ah,We come from the land of the ice and snow,>from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. The hammer of the godsWill drive our ships to new lands,To fight the horde, to sing and cry:Valhalla, I am coming! On we sweep with threshing oar,Our only goal will be the western shore.Ah, ah,We come from the land of the ice and snow,>from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. How soft your fields so green,Can whisper tales of gore,Of how we calmed the tides of war.We are your overlords. On we sweep with threshing oar,Our only goal will be the western shore. So now youd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,For peace and trust can win the dayDespite of all your losing. Getting long now so I'll share more later, perhaps someone else could share some of the song lyrics they love.
evilkoal
well, i do sincerely hope that this is not considered thread necromancy, but i have a few lyrics i would like to share that have kept me going so far. this song is "This Flesh A Tomb," by Atreyu. I feel eyelashes on my cheekAnd they lacerate my fleshNo pain so goodSo put your hand in mineNever let goNever wake up 'cause I'm done with promisesI'm taking blood oathsFeels like you could kiss my imperfectionsMy imperfections awayAnd I would standStand by your side until the sun turns the skyAll the colors I see in your eyesI'll never need to see the sun againThere's enough light in your eyes to light up our little worldSo take me, take my awayKill me slowly, I'll never be the sameI swear to you, on everything I amAnd I dedicate to you all that I haveAnd I promise you that I will stand right by your sideForever and always until the day I dieThe bite marks on my neck never felt so goodI'm losing control and it's all that I can doNot to blackout and fall into lust with youYour kisses infect meThe dark gift is loving youAnd I'll never need to see the sun againThere's enough light in your eyes to light up our little worldSo take me, take me awayKill me slowly, I'll never be the sameAnd I feel immortal and I want to make you feel the sameSo stand by me as we immolateWe can burn in each other's arms [x2] this song is one i found when i was about seven or eight years of age. this is what i am. "I'm the One" by Danzig I was born in the dirtI never had no homeAnd the places I've livedYou don't wanna knowBut if you wanna hear evilJust come a little bit close I was a snake-eyed boyAnd at the age of fiveI made love to the howl of the wolvesWith a dark haired girlSo if you wanna hear evilCome a little bit close She whispered in my earLittle boy you the oneSet the world to rightsMake it tremble in fearDo it one more time'Cause you the one, you're the one You're the one, you're the oneYou're the one, you're the oneYea, you're the oneLittle boy, you're the oneDo it one more time She said the path you walkGonna be hard one to tread'Cause the night is your only loveLots of girls gonna be hurtSaid it's part of your fate'Cause you're the one, you're the one And now I know my placeIn this life I rideAnd I know the things I feelA burning deep insideSo if you want to meet evilI'm the one, I'm the oneI'm the one, I'm the oneI'm the one, I'm the oneYea, I'm the oneI'm the one, I'm the oneDo it one more time finally, the love song. well, at least part of the song; the rest is too offensive to post :) "Unsuccessfully Coping With The Natural Beauty Of Infidelity" by Type O Negative [part a. Anorganic Transmutogenesis (synthetic division)] Trust and you'll be trustedSays the liar to the foolLust and so what if you're busted? In love and war there ain't no rules Do you believe in forever?I don't even believe in tomorrowThe only things that last foreverAre memories and sorrow Out of sight out of mindThe motto of betrayalThe prophets preach to forgive and forgetI'm sorry, but I am unable

shalheira
I think that the following song hides a very special message... It is one of my favourites from Moonspell. Capricorn At Her Feet ~ Moonspell Snowbird, ablaze and hurt.Brighter, fearless, just like a runaway.Princess never-a-smile.Oh, child! What makes you try?Crying and sobbingYou greet the other day She who never touches ground. Spreading an eclipse.Where never the sun shines,At her feet. Frostbite, Astray, Will, Faith.Haunting, hunting ,she rules the game.Twin soul you are always a strange.Nothing ever makes you afraid?Promising, threatening. She looks the other way Starlike, but never to be counted.Look at your hands, child!Destinies grow back to them. Daughter sunWith nothing to say.Never a fullmoonJust the sickening ray. Prudent. In tears hiding,No water shed. The sign of the CrossWill take you to bed. In Capricorn. Spreading an eclipseMay never the sun shineAt her feet...
worm82075
Moonspell kicks ass! Thanks for turning me on Shalheira, kudos to you. The only Goth Metal I ever found that took my fancy was Type O Negative and Danzig. If you know of any others please enlighten me. I was hoping this thread did just this for me so thank you again for facilitating that desire. Marcus, I know you have at least visited my profile so it's quite possible you are aware of my affinity for Naruto, so you got my interest on that point alone. Shame is I cant find any samples of it so I can't judge beyond the words. Cool though, so thanks. With a name like evilkoal and your posts in the genetic engineering thread I really only expected the blackest of black and you surely delivered on that expectation. Your entries as you know from this post consist of two that I am very familiar with. My favorite Danzig song is probably Not Of This World and Type O Negative would have to be Black No. 1. New to me is Atreyu so thanks for that. They like so many others doesn't get the proper genre classification and that is because Alternative Metal is not an official genre but if I had the time I would see to it that it was. I am somewhat short on time and I really must go but I feel I need to leave you something so I will rely on that which I know best for the moment but I will be back with a special tribute to the dark ones that have posted so far. Black SabbathA National Acrobat I am the world that hidesThe universal secret of all timeDestruction of the empty spacesIs my one and only crimeI've lived a thousand timesI found out what it means to be believedThe thoughts and imagesThe unborn child that never was conceived When little worlds collideI'm trapped inside my embryonic cellAnd flashing memoriesAre cast into the never-ending wellThe name that scorns the faceThe child that never sees the cause of manThe deathly darkness thatBelies the fate of those who never ran Well I know its hard for youTo know the reason whyAnd I know you'll understandMore when it's time to dieDon't believe the life you haveWill be the only oneYou have to let your body sleepTo let your soul live on I want you to listenI'm trying to get through Love has given life to youAnd now it's your concernUnseen eye of inner lifeWill make your soul returnStill I look but not to touchThe seeds of life are sownCurtain of the future fallsThe secret stays unknown Just remember love is lifeAnd hate is living deathTreat your life for what it's worthAnd live for every breathLooking back I've lived and learnedBut now I'm wonderingHere I wait and only guessWhat this next life will bring

shalheira
Here's another song! It's from a catalonian heavy metal band called "Sangtraït" (Bruise, in english) from their cd "Contes i llegendes" (1993). I think that the lyrics maybe have a hidden message... think it for yourself :whistling: I've translated them, but some expressions in my language are very difficult to change to english, therefore, I searched another similar expressions El País de Mandorcórovi ~ Sangtraït (The Land of Mandorcórovi) Un món imaginari on som menys que les bèsties, (An imaginary world, where we are less than the beasts)on van sobre Unicornis verges i dimonis, (when virgins and demons ride unicorns)buscant sota les pedres un tio que les torni boges, (they are looking for under the stones a guy who turn on them mad)servint, fins que s'els mori, d'esclau eròtic. (being useful, till his death, an erotic slave) Ès un món, ja saps, que no existeix, (In a world that don't exists, do you know,)on les dones van buscant els carrers. (where women are looking for the streets ) Tinc por que em trobin fugint de les seves flexes, (I am afraid that they found me scaping from their arrows)cridant com si fosin verges i dimonís. (shouting like virgins and demons) Vigila les dones surten a caçar. (Beware! Women are on hunting!)Vigila, que potser tu cauràs. (Beware! They can catch you) Un món on per las dones tu ets peix dins un aquari (A world where for women you are a fish into an aquarium)flotant entre dues aigües. Verges i dimonís. (floating between two waters. Virgins and demons)Pescant amb xarxa oberta un peix que els doni guerra, (Fishing with an open net a warrior fish)servint fins que s'els ofegui d'esclau eròtic. (being useful, till his drowning, an erotic slave)Estic vivint l'ultim moment, (I'm living the last moment)estic caien, ja soc un mes (I'm drowning, I'm another one)corrent pel món, com els conills... Blacksnake89
Here is a list of songs i have found to be inspiring to me. I have several songs so i'll just post links to all of them except the very important ones. First important one The Human Stain by Kamelot. Video can be found here [i see the cemetery skycarmine red and deepwatch the oceans rising highits the human stain] talk about the growing hungerask why with deep concerndon't you thinkthe human is ceaselessly vain but it hurts to be alive my friendin this silent tide we're driftwood passing bydon't you wish you were a child againjust for a minutejust for a minute more hear the ticking of a clockthe sound of life itselfno one really wants to dieto save the world tell me that you're torn asunderfrom how we fail to learnand tell me as the earth goes underwhere's your anger now so it hurts to be alive my friendin this masquerade were all one day must diedon't you wish you were unborn againjust for a minutejust a minute more tic tocthe ticking that could tear asunderthe beating from a heart of stonethe loss of your divine prosperity cause it costs to be alive my friendand this life that someone merely gave to youthat's the price you payminute by minuteyou beg for a minute more Second song is one love-Bob Marley One Love! One Heart!Let's get together and feel all right.Hear the children cryin' (One Love!);Hear the children cryin' (One Heart!),Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;Sayin': let's get together and feel all right. Wo wo-wo wo-wo! Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love!);There is one question I'd really love to ask (One Heart!):Is there a place for the hopeless sinner,Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs? One Love! What about the one heart? One Heart! What about - people? Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;Let's get together and feel all right.Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;Let's get together and feel all right. Next is Hours Passed In Exile-Dark Tranquillity Lost To Apathy-also DT. not exactally as deep as my other songs but one I love none the less March Of Mephisto-Kamelot, video here Warning video is labled Uncut and features blood in some scenes you have been warned. I listen to most types of music but I'm mainly a metal head. I chose to put Bob Marley here because his music was instrumental to who I am today and there is a chance I may not have been alive here today had I not dicovered this great mans music. Music today is very much a part of what I am, music is part of my soul and I listen to it every where I go. Listening to music has helped me get through tough times in my life. Where the peace and love of Bob Marley got me through some hard times, sometimes anger can be a good way to cope. When I needed anger to cope with my situation this song and another one helped me. The Bleeding-Five Finger Death Punch Lyrics here. The other song is very violent and full of cussing so I'll leave you to look for it at your own discression it's called Meet The Monster also from Five Finger DP. That is my list of songs I found to be great hope you liked them too. Sorry for such a long list and a wall of text but this is a topic I feel strongly about. Edit:Links didn't work right so I guess I'll leave you to search on your own. You can youtube any of those to find videos if there are any and I look up my lyrics at http://www.sing365.com/
