Puzzle doors and puzzle claws share pictures... examine the claw in your inventory window if you're stumped

When I first started I gave my follower a few potions of heal and stamina and resist potions for fire,shock etc, but then I read that they do not use them, so I stopped giving potions.

So you say that when the follower is on his knees and needs healing fast that he/she will use a potion if it is in their inventory?

I am intrigued, I hope you are right , It should be tis way but not certain if that is the way this game works.

You didn't quote the right guy but yeah... Followers will use the potions you give them. If for some reason they don't, note if it was player made or found/bought. Maybe they won't use player made? I haven't really looked either way.

My tip:

Early on in the game you don't have the speechcraft to get good prices at merchants, and the buggars round down! Also, later in the game the items get so expensive, but usually heavy, you can't take everything with you if you don't use followers... or you just don't want little junk.

So I just take the price of the item and divide it by the weight and only keep items that the result is 10 or better. An iron dagger is 10septims and weights 2units... that's a result of 5: don't bother. A mountain flower might be worth 2septims but has a weight of 0.1 and the result is 20: pick it up and sell it.

Using that system my characters always have the septims for houses and usually 2-3 training sessions every level (using the sessions is optional for me) and almost never have to drop items I picked up so that near the end of a dugeon I can pick up the boss's uber item drop.

Bravo to all the posters in this topic. I have logged 250 hrs in skyrim so far. Some of the tips I learned the hard way but many I didn't know. Thanx to all again. I hope there will be many more added. Here's my 2 cents;

--If you feel the need to fight a battle without your follower getting in the way you cannot give them the cammand to 'wait here' and expect them to wait 'there' and not participate in the fight (even through a door!). I guess it's that sworn to protect me thing.

--Followers have a tendency to want to wear the type of armor/weapons they are originally equipped with (ie... light vs heavy) even if it has a lesser rating. Upgrading or enchanting it will get them to equip it.

--Store loot (once you have a house to do so) in containers instead of selling it. Sell it only when you need to convert it to cash. Benefits are: 1.Can sell at a higher profit later in game. 2. You may wish to use item in different manner later in game 3. You can always convert into cash if needed but is much more costly to convert cash into retail item.

  • 2 years later...

I know this thread is 3 years old, but since I'm still playing Skyrim why not. Here are several tips. First, you can have your follower pickup skill books so you don't have to read them until you want. Second, if you want to turn iron ore to gold ore, the Transmute spell can be found at Halted stream camp near Whiterun. There are a lot of iron ore mines in Skyrim. I found for me making jewelry was a good way to increase my smithing skill. Third, the Shrine of Mehrunes Daigon can be looted every two weeks. Fourth, there be gold bars at the NE and NW ends of of the coast. And finally, the Harmony spell works great in the late game getting past level 81.
