Is circumcision a definitively religious phenomena?

In short: No.

I know my other topic was locked, but I just want to say my piece. If the mods still want to lock this thread too they can and I will drop it.

It does not strike me as fair to ban a topic of discussion based on the facile argument that it will lead to an quasi-related topic of discussion, because the issue at hand goes well beyond religion.

Last year 33% of newborn boys born in the United States were circumcised and that only counts circumcision paid for by health insurance, it does not count circumcisions paid for out of pocket and it definitely does not count circumcisions performed for religious reasons.

There. I have said my piece, if the mods still want to lock this I will just drop it and walk away before I get myself banned or something.

Well you can't talk about it without reference to religion, But I agree the subject is entirely different than debating religion, but a mod seemed to think so. so your or my opinion, or the actual statistics on the matter that prove, at least in the US, it is not a religiously motivated practice is irrelevant. Not always religion, but usually with some religious undertones. Since this is an all ages site, I would suggest doing your own research and deciding for yourself. I personally see it as genital mutilation for the sake of making sex less pleasurable, with some negligible benefits to hygiene (given modern standards of cleanliness and regular bathing). But others tend to have their own opinions on the subject and are entitled to their beliefs.

Locking this one though... Because this sort of thing is bound to break one rule or another around here.
