Ixflashpointxi
I have the non steam version. I patched the game to 1.7, but not through windows live. Is that a problem? It was crashing even before that. No, Non-Steam-Versions are not problematic. After patching manually, hover your mouse over the Fallout3.exe a short while, the number should show 1.7.0.3. And my specs shouldn't be a problem, because I play Max settings on SKyrim with the HD texture packs.Fallout 3 has a problem with multi core CPUs. Did you already apply the Multi-Core-Fix? You'll have to edit the Fallout.ini file under Documents\My Games\Fallout3.See instructions here:http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Crashes_fix/reduce_guide (solution 1) Yea, I did that and it fixed the crashes when entering areas. But I still crash whenever try to load a save from anywhere other than the main menu.
phoneyLogic
Seems to be a corrupted save. You can try to start a new game and check out if saving is working dandy. Don't use Quicksave that much. Like Fonger said, it's a known feature of FO3 that quick saving and loading can corrupt save games. Also switch auto saving off in the game menu. M48A5
I don't think your problem is with the quick save or auto save features. I use quick save whenever I exit the game. I have never used a quick load. I do load the game through FOMM with FOSE. At one time I did have a problem until I moved the game files out of the program files. My current path is C:\Bethesda Softworks/Fallout3/Fallout3.exe. This has stopped a lot of my ctd's and freezing.
phoneyLogic
Yeah, right. UAC and anti virus scanner may have an impact to the game stability as well as to save games. But the quick and auto save function of FO3 is still known for corrupted saves. That's why many use casm instead. I only had a lots of corrupted saves with FNV yet, av-scaner related, but none with FO3. With this engine I'm always saving via game menu. Dont rely on the quick save feature.Maybe I just read too many posts who complained about corrupted saves because they always and only used F5 and F9? But there always is a reason for having many save games in general. The more mods you use the higher are chances that one or another will mess up your save games as well.
