  1. 1. Do you think a mod like this is worth creating?

So, I recently finished the Dark Brotherhood quest line, and I found myself disappointed. I did not like the way it ended at all. Everything up until just before the end was great. I will go into details in the spoiler section. Those who haven't done the quest and don't want the ending ruined, stay away.

When the sanctuary is assaulted and you find out Astrid betrayed you, I was rather upset. As I was playing it, my Khajiit Assassin could have cared less what the Night Mother and Sithis wanted. Every conversation choice I made up until that point had favor toward Astrid. I even took out Cicero (gladly). I was under the assumption that once I finished off the emperor, I would have been rewarded with my own sanctuary (the one just outside Dawnstar that you get for completing the chain) and the ability to have any of the current Dark Brotherhood members be a follower.

Instead, to finish the quest chain, I have to follow through, losing most of the Unique NPCs, just to get my own sanctuary. Disheartening.

My request is that someone make a mod that adds a quest before the first attempt on the "emperor" and before Cicero makes the mistake of crossing everyone. Have Astrid confront you and bluntly ask who you felt should be in charge. If you answer the Night Mother, the chain proceeds as normal. If you choose Astrid, delay the quest where Cicero attempts to kill Astrid. Instead, have Cicero be the one that betrays you to the Penitus Oculatus and fails in his attempt to assassinate Astrid, fleeing to the Dawnstar sanctuary like normal. You kill him there, then pick up with finishing off the emperor (since it will let the Dark Brotherhood make there mark in history again). Finally have Astrid reward you with the sanctuary and the chain ends.

The old members of the Brotherhood could split their time between the Dawnstar and Falkreath Sanctuaries along with the wonderfully descripted "Dark Brotherhood Assassins".

I do not know if something like this is possible, but I would absolutely love it if it were.

I like the ending the way it is for the most part. I voted no.

Although:

I would like there to be more of a reward, gradually for "The Dark Brotherhood Forever", when the Mother gives you an infinite quest line. I'd kinda like it if it lead to an actual encounter with Sithis, and you do his Daedric quest and get....idk...a dagger made from his essence...or he weaves robes from his flesh that are better than Astrid's armor, and the Darkbrotherhood armor combined, with perhaps a unique effect that rivals that of the Ebony Mail from Boethia.

Just saying...I wasn't too impressed with Sithis after the end of the quest. It would be cool to change the end to that effect. If that were the case I'd stand firm on a yes.

Problem would be voice acting, if you care about that kind of thing. Otherwise should be easy with the CK when it hits market.

Yea, I thought about that as well. I doubt it would really be possible, but even without it, I'd love this.

Spoiler Alert! Read my post at your own peril!

I want to see this go through, altho i wouldnt be able to kill Cicero, even if he betrayed me. Personally a split storyline like you have described makes more sense to the choices you make, i agree, they all leading to the same end is disappointing. It would be nice to preserve both the Sanctuary and Cicero...

Astrid's betrayal however i saw coming right from the very start, its in her character being too overprotective of not so much her family, but herself, she didnt want to lose power and when the Listener is chosen she loses just that, but at her own choice of actions really. Instead of embracing the idea she fights it tooth and claw and ends up destroying everything she fought for. Happens in real life with people often too, ive seen it happen twice now.

A branch of possibilities should be available depending on the players choices, their words etc. That much i do agree on. I got used to the new Sanctuary in Dawnstar but it couldve had some proper adjustments when you get the place fixed up, like chests not resetting so all your items get lost, and treated it like a real home. And it made me cry that we lose Lis! Y_Y i loved that pet spider.... luckily there is a mod created out that brings her back and gives her her own room in Dawnstar sanctuary...

I agree too that there should be choices and multiple endings. I disagree with the idea of Cicero being the one to betray you to the Pentaculus Occulatus, since, well, it's completely out of character for him and he wouldn't do that... but I agree that if you tell Astrid you're on her side, she shouldn't betray you. (Not that I ever would, I really don't like her and waited for her to die from the beginning :P ) Since apparently the Pentaculus already had the DB infiltrated or spied upon (according to the implications in the Destroy the DB quest), I think that they should catch you without her help. It seems plausible. Then you can rush back and save the sanctuary from them and she can reward you with your own sanctuary and divvy up the members between you ^^ Of course, this plan should also include the ability to run back and save the sanctuary even if she does betray you... maybe just the lives of the people inside (since if Astrid trusted them and let them in they would have had an advantage in the attack)... and then you get to either spare and expel her or execute her on your own. :} (I rather hated the fact that the survivors thought Astrid was all noble and pitiable after she betrayed you all. I wanted to see righteous anger. >> )

Anyway yes to choices and alternate ending, as long as it still works with the real ending. Expand ALL the endings!

If you dont like Astrid as much as me, you may enjoy this little mod then http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8443 where she lives unliving in eternal suffering for her betrayal!
