Glowing Modded Textures?

One thing I've noticed since I've downloaded some of the amazing texture mods is that many items (weapons and plants being the two most noticeable) now seem to glow from certain angles. That is they have a roughly white border. It's not a bid deal obviously, I was actually more curious as to why it's there. Is it natural for modded textures to have it, or is it a byproduct of texture mods having to go through a more conveluted process, or?

 

Definitely not uninstalling them, Skyrim is definitely more visually stunning now, just curious.

I have/had the same problem with my weapons but i guess i solved my problem...weapons have got a specular map that is responsible for some kind of light reflection/reaction...white areas= bright, black areas = dark when light hits the surface.

 

I had bright edges on all my weapons, just a bit light was enough to end up with a very bright/white border. So i checked my specular map and saw that there was a border around some areas of my texture, only 1 pixel that was semi transparent = grey and that ended up with a shiny border ingame. Here is one of my maps, the black bars next to the dark hilt textures cover those lines.

I guess an unfitting cubemap can lead to such error as well, you can choose different "templates" of materials that simulate the reflection...for example ore, silver or glass and all that stuff. If you mix a high reflecting material like chrome with a bad specular map it might look weird as well.

 

There is a value for glossiness in the nif file as well...I'm no hardcore modder, just my thoughts to this topic. :D
