teamsleep Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I made an armor set temperable using the CK, followed the tutorial down to the letter, and it worked in game, but I can only temper the armor to 'Flawless'. Is there any way to make it past that? Up to Legendary, for example? Am completely new to this. Side note, and dunno if it's relevant, I used the ebony armor tempering OBJ as a template, but the mats are simple, like iron ingots, leather strips, etc... pls halp
IsharaMeradin Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 According to the wiki (http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Tempering), you either need to increase your smithing skill level to 168 or have the appropriate perk for the material type (determined by keyword) and a smithing skill level of 91. That means without using any fortify smithing potions or enchanted gear you won't reach the highest possible levels without taking advantage of the legendary leveling aspect or using a mod such as the Uncapper to change how the skill levels.

I probably formulated the topic question incorrectly. I'd like to release it, if possible, and make it so that whomever uses the modded armor piece can upgrade it to Epic or Legendary without having level 168 smithing. Does it have to do with the base armor rating? Am gonna try fiddling with that.
Kroekr Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 From what I have seen. It may be based on the difficulty level you are playing on. I have tempered multiple armors and weapons beyond Flawless without going beyond 100 in Blacksmithing. In my current playthrough I am tempering to Epic with my skill at 95.

Like, I am 86 and my smithing is maxed, am playing on "hard" mode (whatever it's called, I forget) and so the engine decides based on that?
teamsleep Posted February 14, 2017 Author Posted February 14, 2017 I figured it out thanks to a previous post with my same issue. Someone posted this:If a weapon group is not covered by a smithing perk, it cannot be improved to legendary. There are numerous fixes available on the Nexus, with different equally viable solutions. Here is the one I use: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/33959/?So I added a perk requirement to the crafting recipe and now the engine allows me to temper the new armor past Legendary regardless of smithing level.
