I would like to start by saying thank you to all you smart people out there for helping old guys like me.

when I use the option to check for updates and missing stuff from the list of mods I have it hits a spot gives a prompt ask if I want to create a log then closes out NMM. So , I looked at the log and one og the things that I don't understand but sounds fishy " Setting up listener on Nexus Mod Manager-Fallout4IpcServer/Fallout4Listener at 2017-02-18 19:10:01

Running Application.".. is there supposed to be someone listening? maybe paranoid but did I piss someone off or is this legit??" the listener thing threw me off..
the part after that where it quits is

Others will be able to give you better information about your specific issue but here are the steps I follow with NMM and mods.

I download all mods to a folder named exactly after the name of the mod I am downloading. I keep these folders in a FO4 Mods folder on my desktop. I click TRACK for that mod so I can easily check them for updates.

If I see an update that I want to try for an existing mod, I download the new update to the mods folder.

I then completely uninstall the old version and then load the new version almost as a new mod.

I started to do it this way years ago as the update function could be funky sometimes. I have never had any issue doing updates this way. It may be a little more work but doing updates this way has been easy and without issue for years.

I can't help you with any of the other items but moving forward this may help you. It also makes sure that you have a copy of that mod saved somewhere incase you run into game damaging issues and you need to uninstall and reinstall everything. Often you will see people with HD crashes and they need to reinstall everything only to find out that that special mod they cannot live without, is no longer posted and is not available. Good luck shizit!

That rings so many bells it's like being at a campanologists convention, deafening.

There's nothing dangerous, no malware included in Nexus Mod Manager as long as you get it from this site. I wouldn't download it from a site like CNET however unless you enjoy malware. When NMM talks about "listening" it's not talking about accessing a microphone and literally listening, it's a programming term meaning that the code is looking for a certain type of event to happen so that it can do a different action in response. NMM is pretty broken these days and is now terrible at actually installing and uninstalling mods correctly, but it won't actually harm your computer.

Am at v0.63.13 and so far have never had a serious issue with NMM...

Maybe they decided to fix the broken garbage even though they said they weren't going to support it anymore! I gave up a few versions ago.
