Collers
Ok so the Elder Scrolls series has always been plagued by this issue for me. I can become head of the theives guild and the dark brotherhood, while still being an honourable thane and heading up the companions, and sitting pretty at the top of the mages guild wielding a sword. And to top all this I am the dragonborn! I feel that this really limits replay value, as I never have to make and REAL choices about my loyalties other than Stormcloaks / Empire. In terms of immersion this is quite a flaw. I have very little experience of modding games, and none in modding and Bethesda games, so do excuse me if I make an amateur assumptions. I would like to see some form of limiting system in the game. This system would detect that I am stealth / combatty / magey and limit my choices accordingly. For example if I chose to lump all my perks into combat skills, then I would be made welcome in the companions, but would be laughed at if I approached the mages guild. You get 80 perks to place, so say the companions would only allow me to enrol if I had 20 perks in combat skills, while the mages would only accept me if I have 20 perks in magical skills, theives 20 in stealth, and dark brotherhood 10 in combat, 10 in stealth or something to that effect. This would make it possible to join all of the guilds and factions but only if you really belong there. Also the idea of being a thane in every city is quite ridiculous. When I play I choose a city that appeals to me to be my home. I become the thane, buy the house, and choose a spouse from within that city. Of course limiting the awarding of thanes would probably present quite a problem as the main quest line makes you thane of Whiterun, but I am sure you can see what I'm trying to get at. Perhaps you could still become thane of every city, but can progress to become Jarl of just one. I'm not sure how hard it is to write in new quests for the game, but I know I would kill every soul in Sovngarde to become Jarl of Solitude and own the blue palace. Let me know your thoughts. =D

Ohdude
Amazing idea. But being the Thane of every city is kinda good, instead of that you could be a thane of one city and start conquering the other :P
Mercami
I've always loved the fact that you can join every faction get every skill up and that your class choice had no major impact on what you could do. However they did require you to have some skills and stats before you could rank up within a faction in Morrowind. Skyrim to me already feels much more limiting in what I can do with so few perks to work with, though that can be fixed with modding. What you choose to do has always really been up to the player in Elder Scrolls games so I wouldn't really be interested of restricting it to joining say one guild out of the stealth/magic/warrior options, since you can just choose not to join them. I can see how some people would like a mod to do that though to remove the temptation to join them all when you plan to play a more strictly focused path. As far as modding is concerned I'm sure there will be a mod to become Jarl of either one of the current holds or a new one made in honor of the Dragonborn. Collers
@Mercami You say you enjoy the freedom of being able to join any guild, and I understand that, but you really don't get any real choices in the game, except for Imperial or Stormcloak. This post explains the point I'm trying to make much better than I can; http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/541558-a-mod-that-allows-me-to-play-a-good-character/page__p__4406019__fromsearch__1#entry4406019 Aye and I'm sure you're right. Jarldom is inevitable in mods if not DLC's.

Jarldom is inevitable in mods if not DLC's. I'm very sympathetic to what you're asking and I agree with it. But although you quoted my post in another thread, you and I asking for opposite things. I'm asking for choices to be expanded whereas you're asking for them to be limited. Limiting choices, although it's something I agree with, it's a much harder sell. Bethesda read the market and decided this is what 15 year old players want. They want to be every class rolled into one, the head of every guild, thane in every city, etc, etc. I'm afraid the trend in games is against those of use who want a purer RPG experience. RPGs as we knew them are dead. RIP. Having said that, this is where modding community can plug the gaping holes left by Bethesda and make something that rescues this game for us. Have at it.
