Build you abandoned and why....

1) Conjurer/One-handed/Alteration bound sword warrior as the summons AI wasn't worth it and the Bound Sword damage started to be too underwhelming past lvl40.

2) Illusion/Assassin vampire for no reason

3) Pure mage as the damage started to be too weak for master past lvl 30.

4) Restoration/Two-handed/Heavy Armor for no reason

5) One-handed/Destruction for the reason that destruction damage wasn't worth it.

I think the better question is which character have I stuck with. I can't think of a single type of character I didn't abandon, mainly because I had finished the main quest (and that just feels like the ending of the game to me). Everything you could do after the end would just be a huge let down, so I never bother.

The longest I ever played a character was a Khajiit by the name of Gharfiild who was a long-time self-employed thief, but then eventually joined the thieves guild and attained guild master, was a companion, a bard, and arch mage. He dealt with the DB (and by dealt with, I mean he "took care" of them). That was probably the most fun I've had playing this game, and I highly recommend playing with these goals in mind.

Things that ruin your fun:

- Ugly player character. (Okay, I admit it. I've lost interest quite a few times because of this single fact.)

- Too much money. Everything suddenly becomes way too easy with too much money.

- Played a big nasty quest and hated it (I'm looking at you Civil War quest line).

- Played a big nasty quest and loved it too much (the main quest).

- Played a wonderfully disturbing quest (DB) and found myself wishing I hadn't played it.

- Played an absolutely brilliant quest (TG) and enjoyed it immensely.

Pure mage with upgrades to only magicka and no armor. I got tired of dying from random sabre cat attacks. I was persistent though. I made it up to level 36 before I said enough was enough.

Strange, that's currently my character. The sabre cats are a real pain for an unarmored mage.....so much so I'm thinking of abandoning this one as well. And how the heck are you supposed to down dragons when your just a conjurer?

Think I'll return to a heavy armoured fighter, that's been my best way of playing so far.

I've abandoned too many to count...deleted almost all of them. The one that lasted the longest was my Tank character: Heavy Armor, Shield, Sword (Lightsaber mod :P), small amount of Archery, and I had just started expanding into Sneak before I finished the main quest and lost interest.

My latest is a Dunmer Thief/Assassin...mainly uses Bows atm, but I plan to expand into Daggers and Illusion magic. I think I want to advance the main storyline to just past the Dragon attack in Whiterun, but before I go to see the Greybeards just so I can kill Dragons and shout. Hopefully I'll get around to finishing the TG and probably join the DB at some point. I never did get around to choosing a side in the war either, but I'll probably go Stormcloak since the Imperials are just dicks.

Most dragons weren't much of a problem after a few storm atronachs and dual cast lightening bolts with impact. It was everything else that would one shot me. As long as I saw them ahead of time, I could usually deal with it but one wrong random encounter with a bear or a dual casting ice mage and it was usually time to reload.

I got bored with my first one since it was just there to get a feel for the game. My second, I was way too focused on gaming mechanics and methodically advancing the game than on the story and role playing.

As for my third, that I just started:

A violent and cynical fire mage that thinks intimidating people is often the best way to get things done. He was never that way younger when apprenticing in magic at Winterhold. As a native of Skyrim, he feels that others just like himself were brutalized too often and subsequently have developed a rough and jaded demeanor. He is capable of murder and can be amoral. But to anyone except the school of magic, his loyalty must be questioned. As he is known to participate in the activities of less then honest groups of people; only for them to be found dead or altogether missing. Who does he work for, if he does actually work for someone...

Attributes:

Physically weak but a quick runner.

Cunning but also thinks way too much.

Compartmentalizes the consequences of his actions.

He donates to the poor a lot.

Heh, as you can see I'll be enjoying this one =)

I love your description....thanks for including the RP, makes for a good read....

I have restarted a number of times...trying different styles, etc...I accidently deleted my favorite when he was level 46 when I was thinning out saves, I had to restart him... :pinch: ...And deleted a Magic user and a Thieves Guild character, I didn't enjoy them, have never joined the DB, just doesn't interest me...Now have ended up with three DB's:

My main (favorite)... Ro'aan the Nord (he began as an Imperial, but I like the larger size of the Nord):....Archery, Stealth, Light Armor, Smithing, Duel Wielding (swords) and Speech...specializing in surprise attacks though his swords get more of a work out than his bow, he prefers up close and personal (I love the duel wield cut scenes)....Mostly a good guy, helps the poor, does most of the favors, etc...isn't worried about breaking the law though (just cuts Brynjolf off rather than the "Break the Law, are you kidding" line)....Those morals fly out the window when faced with the Thalmor or Maven Black Briar though, he despises these people....stirs every Thalmor he can into a fight and has tried everything he can to stir Maven into a rage, but sadly thats not possible.

Kane the Nord: One Handed (sword and axe), Block, Light Armor and Smithing....will not sneak no matter the consequences, prefers to just barrel straight on through...basically a reasonably good guy, but grunty, arrogent and quick tempered...does what he feels like at the time meaning may or may not help, depends on his mood....Shares Ro'aan's attitude towards the poor, Brynjolf, the Thalmor and Maven.

Sabine the Redguard (thought I should try a female DB): Archery, Stealth, Light Armor, Smithing, Duel Wielding (swords and daggers) and Speech....I struggle a bit with her, I guess I'm just not that interested in running her but I keep her save anyway....Morally she is a lot grayer than my other two DB's, underhanded and purely out for herself...will be joining the Thieves Guild when I eventually get her there.

I'm the altmaster here I think, abandoned more than 40 chars in total, got fed up with mod issues and decided to start again with a clean install. Now I'm playing a Bosmer archer/backstabber who is very overpowered at lvl 8 with 55 points in archery (thanks Faendal!)... don't know if I'll continue with him since I also got me a breton paladin kind of guy.

I've abandoned two characters to cosmetic issues (I don't like the vanilla end-game heavy armors).

I dropped three more characters once I figured out that smithing was a way better use of perk points than extra levels of +20% damage (bows, 1h, 2h etc). Going past 1 point at the base of any tree seems like a waste to me now.

I rerolled three more times recently, and am currently playing that last character. It's a sorta bard/rogue/nightblade kinda build.
