Retexturing Help

Well i guess you would need the UV mesh of the model as layer in Photoshop to line them along the polygon edges.

I use C4D for that:

I guess other 3D programms got this feature as well, Blender is for free so maybe someone with knowledge of this programm can help you.

In fact you get something like that as transparent layer, can line them out directly in 3D program or PS:

Might me a bit tricky to find the right edges without 3D Software...but doable.

I've seen that there are own tools out there for 3D unwrapping, maybe something like that could help as well.

Didn't check them out but i could imagine that there is a tool out there that supports that feature.

Thank you for the quick reply. I was actually reviewing your animation and mesh tutorials that you put on youtube earlier today^^. This is closer to what I want but its not quite right. I want to be able to manipulate colors at a slighty higher degree of intricacy. If you look at this random texture mod here:

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=2593&navtag=file/images.php?id=2593&tab=3

you can see what I want to be able to do. I want to get these small areas changed in color while keeping other areas vanilla clean. This would really help me with retexturing clothing trim, as well as armor decal like the above mentioned armor retexture.

Ah ok, well understand...btw you mix me up with someone else, the animation video is not from me just posted it and i've only got modelling and NIfskope tutorials on YT...in german :D

Regarding those lines: i guess he just outlined them by hand, so just made a workpath and stroked it or somehow. I see no transparency or material in those strokes so should be simple red lines drawn over the original file, the shine comes from the specular map.

I have been looking, but I cant find anything that is able to manipulate the colors very precisely. I want to have different colored trim, decals and buttons, but I cant figure out a way to do that without doing it by hand. And I am pretty sure that there is a better way.

Well ok then we're really talking 'bout PS basics...just check out Youtube, there are tons of tutorials.

Here are just 2 common ways:

http://666kb.com/i/c0rjp45t9w51z8kh1.png

A)

Select the areas you want to color (you can cut or copy them into a new layer if you want), go to IMAGE=>ADJUSTEMENTS=>HUE/SATURATION, check the COLORIZE box and play around with the settings.

B)

Create a new layer over the texture, brush the area with a color, set the layer style to COLOR BURN or try out other ones, change opacity and so on.

And many other ways...most options in IMAGE=>ADJUSTEMENTS are responsible for changing the color, you can try out others as well like REPLACE COLOR and such stuff :)

Ummm paint brush sized the same width as the line and hours of painting red over the silver lines? new layer that's solid red and hours of erasing everything but the lines? magic wand set to where it makes the lines a selection then paint it? Well that's 3 ways of doing it. magic wand and color replacer? In Photoshop there's a million and 1 ways to do it and a few billion Photoshop tutorials. The question is better suited for a Photoshop forum than here.

Also you can do a genius workin working with adjustment layerrs , masque-layers etc etc. never paint on ONE layer, try to seperate different items on different layers first, THEN work on it, and when finishing, flatten all again, AFTER saving a PSD File as you can easily change anything on the textures again without working through again and again and again...

If you want to change the colour of say the trim on a piece of armour, the path (or pen tool in photoshop) tool can help you do that. What you do is click around the area you want to edit, and then when you are done, you turn the path into a selection, from there its a simple case of changing the hue or saturation, or the brightness and contrast and so forth.
