Reinstalled oblivion, crash on starting the game

Question2

Recommended Posts

I uninstalled oblivion, then reinstalled the GOTY version (oblivion + shivering isles). I then deleted my old oblivion.ini

When i start the game using OBMM, i get a command prompt screen, then the game goes to full screen mode for a while and then the game closes. No error messages, nothing. It just keeps closing.

Same thing happens if i try to start the game using the launcher.

Any ideas whats going on?

you may have saved games relying on ESMs not there anymore. This is known cause of the reported CTD type.

Besides, to grant a really clean install you must delete the former Oblivion folder content too for something there are still tried by the game (mainly the /Data folder but not restricted to it).

Many of those mods there got corrupted when you reinstalled the game, be by losing files, missing needed changes in the ini files, too many reasons I can think and too many to enumerate all.

you should try reinstalling at least the bigger ones, bashing them again as needed... I can't advice any magic way to do it for I don't know one and some work on your part if trying to keep the old installation is unavoidable.

Be aware even changes in the load order can turn the game unplayable in some circumstances.

What is this bashing then?

Edit : I reinstalled and was able to launch shivering isles, but after installing most of my mods again, it now crashes on load...

Edit 2 : Game companion doesnt work anymore, i set the game to windowed mode but FF mode doesnt activate.

Edit 3 : Found the problem, for some reason when i load lop eared elf mini.esp from the x117 race mod, the game will CTD on start....

Edit 4 : Restarted PC, game companion now works. Omod was faulty, hence the crash.
