Creation Kit

Because currently only mods that involve retextures or save games have been made without it, there have been a few rare custom weapon mods but thats about it.

With the CK we'l be able to make our own landmasses. our own questlines, our own creatures, our own bug fixes, many things are made possible with it.

Yay CK.

So then my question is, why get hyped over it? We can already do so much without it.

You are welcome to keep on modding without the creation kit then. You must be a masochist. If the creation kit is anything like TESCS, then modding with it will be like 50 times faster than it is now, the mods will be of higher quality, and there will be certain types of mods which cannot be built right now which will be a breeze to build for an experienced modder who is using it.

But your point about people who have never modded trying to learn the creation kit and getting intensely frustrated and giving up is a good point. TESCS is not an easy program to use, and a person can use it for years and still not know everything about it and still struggle to make it work.

It'll come out when it comes out. I honestly don't think Beth will be able to release it as planned. Even if it were to come out tomorrow first thing in the morning, it would still take modders a couple of weeks to get accustomed to the new tool. Then another month or four to roll out some quality mods. So don't get too excited when it's finally released.

I'm super hyped. Can't wait.

And well, bethesda said they were making a new wiki with film clips showing people how to do it.

If home made video tutorials can teach me to use blender (and I'm really dense...), then I think bethesda has the professional capacity to make a series of videos explaining how to do the most basic stuff.

The funny thing about most instruction manuals and guides is that they tend to confuse people more than they help them learn. Ironically, home made video tutorials do a better job explaining than the official documentation. I'd say the biggest thing is that the home made ones don't use all the technical jargon official ones do (although the NV G.E.CK. one was nice). It's more of a "this button does this, which helps when you're making such-and-such. this button over here makes stuff bigger... etc"

I bet that a bunch of new modders will fall of the wagon as soon as they launch it. After reading a lot of posts, some people think that the CK will magically give them knowledge and that making mods will be a cakewalk for people who are new to this. granted, it will be easier than modifying hexadecimals to place objects. But things will not construct themselves because you told the program to make "the most awsome mod ever". My anticipation have not been high towards the CK, mostly because i know the tool will not give me inhuman strength and powers to control the world.

Im not trying sound rude, just my impression when i see all of these posts. I know i will probably spend hours just getting used to hotbuttons, UI and where things are. At least not magically place new cells and objects with no troubleshooting, just *swish* "Hey look at my new mod lololol"

personally, i have not even touched the G.E.C.K last mod i made was back in oblivion like 2 years ago. So i expect some frustration through trial and error.

Sorry, but some of the people in threads like these are getting overhyped and some even angry, it's not good, if you have no experience with this kind program, you're gonna be disapointed and the low morale followed by this will cause the learning curve to become very steep.

If you do have experience with these programs..well then you know what you are walking into, even if this one might be different than the others, it will be more familiar to you than a freshman/woman.

So then my question is, why get hyped over it? We can already do so much without it. :)

I agree with you in that there are a lot of people who seem to think the CK will make modding Skyrim as easy as rearranging furniture in the Sims. I predict a lot of very confused and disappointed threads when people discover this is an industry tool designed for and by people with a ton of experience and expertise, not the modding equivalent of iMovie.

The most powerful part of the toolset is the script editor/compiler and the script source for all the game scripts. That's where the really cool stuff begins. Next would be the ability to properly build new worldspace and interior cells.

I have to say that there are some very good points in both of these posts. I think people should be prepared to put a lot of time into learning the basics of the CK. If anyone thinks building a new dungeon will be as easy as building a house in The Sims, just please don't get your hopes up.

I'll admit, Skyrim is the first TES game I've played. Let alone modded.

However, I have extensive knowledge modding The Battle for Middle Earth, so I know more or less what to expect from official modding tools.

Honestly, I plan to just get in and bash for a while, learning all the ins and outs of what this kit has to offer.

Inhuman strength and powers is actually what I expect to gain when the CK is released.

And I agree with what you're saying...
