ChevyCam94
So, I've been playing around with the creation kit for a couple hours. Finally figured out how to load the map data, and can (more or less gracefully) move around the map. Right now, I'm in Sanctuary (post war). My biggest issue is NOT being able to select objects on a regular basis. This is seriously messed up. I can only select an object about 20% of the time. And I typically have to be zoomed nearly ALL the way into it, before it becomes selectable. Things like bushes, cars, tree limbs, etc. I try rotating around, panning, zooming, etc. Its like I have to be at a very specifc spot on the map before it will let me select an object. And even then, I can only select a couple objects in view. Others aren't selectable unless I play the pan/zoom game again. I literally spent 20 minutes trying to select the car at the north end of the bridge to Sanctuary. It's right out in the open, WTF. Is "object selection" something you have to toggle somewhere? Do I need to wait for cell/triangle updates to finish before attempting again? This is making the Creation Kit nearly useless. And don't say "just click on it". That's why I'm asking for help, is because "clicking on it" doesn't work.
Ethreon
You are always selecting something, but it's something you don't see.
ChevyCam94
I assume I need a clear "line of sight" of the object I want to select before I'm actually able to select it? Could there actually be something else in the way? Is there a way to tell what object is currently "selected"? This is stuff that no guide/tutorial ever covers. Ethreon
There are planes, layers and all kind of nonsense in the way. Sometimes it's mist or dust effects.
ChevyCam94
Figures. This is going to be fun..... I'm hoping to eventually make a mod I can release here on NM. Just need to get this CK down a little more.
Ethreon
Those are the usual issues I meet. Obviously, since I only need cell viewing to see what an object mesh is I don't mind deleting everything in my way.
chucksteel
Use the M key to hide markers and Primitives such as triggers and collision boxes. (You can often accidentally select them). Next if you try to select something but, can't then it's likely Dust or some FX, Use the 1 key to hide the selected item. Hitting it once makes it translucent and un-selectable, while hitting 1 twice totally hides the selected object. If you need or want to bring all hidden object back into view use Ctrl + 1 and all hidden objects will be visible again. As for knowing what you have selected, in the "Cell View" window check the "Selected Only" box and what you have selected will be the only thing in the list. (You must have the active cell selected also) Note: Using "Selected Only" will also speed up render window load times when moving across cell boarders because the Ckit will not load every ref into the list.
