Tips/Tutorials for making structures

I'm pretty new to modding and have an idea for a water purifier that I'd like to make. I realize that this is an ambitious project for someone with my experience level but would like to do it anyways. If anyone knows any helpful tutorials or any tips like what tools I should use it would be greatly appreciated. One thing I'll say is I'll need to make it from scratch.

From scratch? As in, model every bit? Are there no game bits you can put together in CK to make a SCOL resembling what you want ?

Not really but the shape itself if very simple

How simple? Regardless, if you want to design it yourself from 0 you'd need some form of 3d editing program. MAX is recommended for this game, but Blender can be used as well.

Basically just an upside down egg supported by three beams

I remember the potted plants (from the prewar player house, for one instance) have a very similar shape (though, half an egg).

 

One you get the tools worked out, could maybe use that as a basis (or cut it up, duplicate and move to fit your purposes).

You can make a sphere, extend it top while reducing it's diameter, then add a circle around the middle section with 3 legs onto it. Not hard, but you need to get some 3d editing under your belly.

you can easily make that using silo parts and industrial beams...

 

Ive also used the redrocket water tower nif and simply switched it with a vanilla water purifier .

 

Or in my 2 latest mods made these HUGE power and water generators with a crapload of parts and animations (visible flow through a transparent tube with bubbles too) and the only thing you need to do is make a scol and to that scol add a specific origin and keywords to the connection point ( a conduit in my case is the actual generator with all the keywords...the rest is just a light show..:P ).

the reason i used the catwalk as a crown around it was to make it look structurally sound (cant have beams just sticking into it... )

for realism's sake..

 

Dont make it a ball... cause we all know those ball shapes are usually just reservoirs.

 

You want to make something that actually "processes" the water ....so you want to make it look a little more complicated...
