BaconCat
Ok, so one thing that is REALLY annoying me about Skyrim is that E opens a chest but Tab Closes it. WTF? Why couldn't E just close it too? Is there a way to swap it so E Closes a container and Tab Loots an item when in a Container? I'd also love for loot all to be A but from what I see that might not be Possible. I know about this: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=88 and it doesn't help me. danshive
Unfortunately, "e" has functionality when interacting with certain containers, and I believe they are all variations of the same script. When putting stuff away in a container in your home, for example, "e" can be used to read books, equip items, eat ingredients, etc. I don't think being able to modify the key behavior is likely unless the CK REALLY lets you go nuts with script editing. BaconCat
Not really looking to change it in world view, I just wanna change it in Menu mode, so that E both opens and closes a chest. Basically I want to swap what Tab and E do when you open a chest.
Syco21
He wasn't taking about world view, he was talking about container view.
nosisab
The UI was designed so you have a chance to eat that daedra heart you was trying to save... Lets hope that hopeless UI has some hope yet, after the CK comes out and people on SKSE can do something about if not possible at all in vanilla. Rooker75
What annoys me is the inconsistency. Sometimes it wants you to use the E button, sometimes the ENTER key, sometimes the Y button. If you try to move a stack of items from one inventory to another (with the R button), you have to use the E button to confirm, but hit the same E button on the next item and you end up eating/equipping/reading it! Whoever designed the inventory/menu UI was dyslexic, high and half-asleep, I think. Edited February 3, 2012 by Rooker75
babis8142
It's not that bad. You just have to get used to it. Like I did. Like thousands of other people did. Like.......Well you get the idea.
bben46
As a PC only gamer - it is that bad  A cripple may get used to hobbling around on a crutch, but he will never like it as much as having two useable legs. I expect to see UI becoming a popular mod category after the CK is released. I have seen where Darn (the designer of the most popular Oblivion UI) has started on a new one for Skyrim. I am hoping for a more modular UI that allows some of the features from various other games in a mix and match style and lots of customization. I use space as my 'action' key (Skyrim uses 'E' some others use enter) and 'E' as my jump key. I prefer a toggle open close using the same key - space to open a container, space to close it, with some other key for take (left mouse) and another for take all -'A' in Fallout3 is good but any key that would be consistent will work such as the unused page up/page down for take all/put all. Another UI container feature that I would like would be check blocks beside each item so I can go down the list and place a check mark then execute a move all checked items. And a 'Kit' category that could be hidden from the inventory items, or included as a separate group. So you don't accidentally sell that impossible dwarven obsidian armor enchanted with a rune of impenetrability and a spell of combined invisibility and dragon repellant.
