skyrim locking up with 1.4

i did reinstall skyrim, and it DID fix it. only problem is that my FPS went down from ~40 to ~20-25.

i have no idea why!

That`s a weird :blink: I assume no mods or any new tweaks? Did you notice this drop with a old savegame or with a new game? Is there any differences between old and new game?

Are you sure there isn`t some settings in ur ATI CCC that has been set to a higher level as a default when u installed it? Do u forexample use the setting AA in the ATI CCC at superadaptive, and at the same time AA in the skyrim launcher?

I`ve got similiar PC spec as u do (4GB, quadcore 3,2Ghz, ATI HD 5850). I`m using superadaptive mode for AA in the CCC and only 2 x AA inthe launcher. If I use 4 in gamelauncher I notice huge decrease in FPS.

I don`t know if u know them already, but there is some minor changes u could try to the skyrimprefs.ini (back up both the old inis.). It gives a couple of 4-5 FPS extra when I`m in huge open areas like outside whiterun.

Set following:

bDoDepthOfField=0

iMaxAnisotropy -> u set it game launcher, however, I`ve read that there is an improvement in performance if u turn this setting off in skyrim game launcher and use the setting in ur graphic card CCC. I`ve done that. I haven`t checked any FPS changes, but it didnt do anything noticable to graphics in the game. So I thought what the heck :tongue:

iTexMipMapSkip=0, Supposed to help low end cards, but I`m using "1" here. And you have a better card than me

bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 If this one is set to 1 it should help low end graphic cards. Don`t ask me how..

bGamepadEnable=0 make sure it is set to zero unless u use a gamepad.

bMouseAcceleration=0

Also I use the setting iPresentInterval=0 at the bottom of the [display] section in the skyrim.ini to disable Vsync.

Actually the 1.4 should not give you any FPS drop, much by the contrary you should be seeing huge performance increase at most locations and average increase overall.

Still, due to the nature of most mods made at this time and without the help of CK are based on accessing directly or indirectly the engine (by means of DLLs and external scripts), they are too vulnerable to game patches, both breaking the patch or being broken by it.

If did not it yet, update all mods you are using already for at this time almost all were adapted to the change. Good luck.

Reinstalling the game may not help if it is done before deleting the ini files and possibly the whole /data, for the reinstall don't touch them and then whatever could cause problems is yet there.

For this reason, renaming the two ini files under /Documents/My Games/Skyrim and letting the game rebuild them may help in this case, try it. You can always return to the previous ones just renaming them back.

Finally, if installed the official Texture pack, follow the changes suggested in more than one thread in the forums. It should be done as soon as possible.

After the 1.4 patch, I also dropped from "nice, smooth game" to "incredible stutter slideshow interrupted by CTDs" and surprisingly, for whatever reason, reinstalling SKSE and SkyUI (even tho I had correct versions) fixed it. Altho ever since 1.4 I too have bit worse performance, but I guess it might bebecause things like SkyBoost no longer work. Also the HD pack seems to actually improve my performace a little bit, which I trully don't understand, because if something, it should make the performance worse.

I havn't played skyrim for a while but when started it up last night i noticed terrible fps, however i figured out that it was because skyrim was ignoring my grahpic card in options on start up, i can't get it to recognize it. and i noticed that in the skyrimpref file it already has it listed, i may have to end up reinstalling but does anyone know another way to force skyrim to recognize a graphic card?

i have tried with and without mods. there should not be anything that might affect the result. the fps is stable even if i go from low gfx to ultra. 20-30 fps.

i have not tried with a new savagame though, but i don't want to loose my 50h+ mage.

i notice that too. i installed the texturepack prior to getting like 50-60fps. can't wait to see the fps without it... :biggrin:
