Can't give items to Lydia

Lately, I have noticed that I cannot give some items to Lydia as they are greyed out. I noticed this when I use the disable and enable console commands to bump up her stats when I level up. I parted ways with her before using the commands as advised.

Is this a bug and want can I do to fix this?

  • 4 months later...

if you're tired of being overencumbered hauling loot/gear, safest way to get around this and not use

fancy console commands like forceAV, modAV, and setAV is

enchant your gear with a high 'fortify carryweight' enchantment and equip (might not work with followers).

easiest way to get the fortify carryweight enchantment (not using mods) is randomly encounter those guys partying in the wild,

they'll give you a 'Charmed Necklace' (000c72e8) if you share a drink with them lol.

there are also a lot of generic magic boots in the game that are enchanted with fortify carry weight and

backpack or bag of holding mods that can be used.

This is indeed another follower bug. The only one worse is that followers don't level up. Anyway, after recruiting and releasing a follower several times their carry weight "will" diminish.

Although xlcr refered to it he didn't tell you how. The best way (imo) to fix follower carry weight is the console command:

"setAV carryweight <number value>" (without quotes and with spaces. Make sure to click on your follower before typing the command)

... Where number value is "300" by default (I believe) but you can make it whatever you want.

So here is exactly what I do :

1. Push tilde key to get in console.

2. Click on follower.

3. Type: "setAV carryweight 300"

4. Hit enter.

5. Tap tilde key to get out of console.

I've been using this method for several months with no issues. I don't like the removeallitems then disable/enable method. It feels like... I'm killing them. (also I think this method can cause issues)

There are console commands to manually level up followers too. Just do a search and you'll find them.

Finally, xlcr's advise was excellent and there are some follower mods that fix these problems and add lots more options. Look up UFO and/or BDO on this site for them.

Guess I felt helpful today. :hurr:

Wow first double post ever. I didn't think my post would "take" since after hitting the add reply button it took me straight to the "bad gateway" page. >:(

Getting the "bad gateway" page a lot since the site update.

Sergeant rock is right. By disable/enable, it can break an active questline or make the NPC non-responsive to future quests/actions. The setav command does work. if you find it still is buggy, setav carryweight 0 -then- setav carryweight 300. If you still have problems, tell the NPC to stay where it is. leave the cell, enter a dungeon somewhere far away and then go back. the problem should be fixed.
