surfn
Looking for advice !!! I haven't played Skyrim for years and want to give it a go again. And, I did have it reasonably modded .... but, no mods installed for the past 4 years or so. My question is .... Since I have both the new Skyrim Special Edition and the original Skyrim in my Steam account. I want to install one of them and start modding from scratch. Is it better to mod the new one ....... or is it better to start with the original Skyrim and mod it instead ? Seems like it might be better to start with Skyrim Special Edition, I'm not sure about that. Especially, if starting with the original version will end up with a better result. I can run under windows 7 or 10, I have both versions on my gaming computer. Also, I have a pretty fast machine, i7 5820 overclocked to 4.4gz and a gtx 1080 overclocked to 1934 mhz. I'm just wondering if anybody has some good opinions about what the pros and cons are with going with the new version vs the old version and advice on which way to go !!! Deleted3897072User
When you say "modding" do you mean installing and running downloaded mods, or do you mean creating new mods with the CK? If you are installing existing mods, you need to look at the range of mods available to you. SSE has a smaller range but if it has all the mods you want anyway, then that's not a factor. SSE is a lot less prone to crashing and it's therefore more satisfying to play. Also, it will make more effective use of your graphics power and look nicer visually. If you are thinking of creating your own mods, I would recommend SSE. The SSE CK is much more stable, and less frustrating to use because of that. surfn
Thanks for the reply.... Nah, I'm not competent in creating mods at all. But, those that do have the ability really create some great additions to the game and it is always fun to "improve" the game over stock. I just finished Witcher 3 and the graphic quality for that game was the by far best I've played on and was wondering which route to go with Skyrim to get as close to that visual quality as possible. From your advice it sounds like "graphically" I should start with SSE which was really what I was looking for some advice on. And hopefully, some of the really great mods that have been created for Skyrim can be ported over to SSE in the future !! Thanks again .... appreciate the advice and opinion !! Moksha8088
Skyrim SE is by far the most stable. It does not require tweaks to get a proper amount of memory. It will be much less of a headache in terms of running your mods. Hopefully, those three reasons will be helpful for you in making your decision. LeddBate
I also think you should go with SE. Of course, a lot of us are waiting (with bated breath) for the Silverlock team to finish re-coding SKSE for SE, since they also plan to help Schlangster with SkyUI. However, if you don't mind using the old user-interface (blech) and don't mind mods using workarounds like "spells" (in place of the MCM menu) then SE will be a very nice experience for you. surfn
Good call on the SE guys !!! I loaded it up with most of the mods currenly available on Nexus and added Vivid Weather and ultra graphics ENB. I'm running a 34" asus ultrawide 2K monitor and with all the mods I had to tweak my cpu up to 4.55 Mhz and gpu up to 2050 Mhz just a bit to keep the game running at 57-60fps all the time. But, it does look and play awesome !!! No crashes or glitches. Much better than I remembered it. Cranked up the alternate start with a new nord character that looks like Ragnar (Vikings) and have just been wandering without starting any of the main storyline yet. Have only played about 12 hours but up to a level 10. So far ..... so good.....so fun !!! Thanks again for the good advice and opinions !!! strawbqwerty
Just remember to save occasionally. Unless of course you don`t mind a few few replays of dungeons and the like. Plays that well that I keep forgetting to save until my character meets a nasty end. Nearly all ways at the end of some dungeon and a hour or more of playing. Still as you have already noticed it is a far better Skyrim than the old one.
surfn
Yeah, I found out that the hard way ..... Got quickly killed by a bear when I was wandering in the mountains and not paying too much attention. Lost about a half an hour of walking and exploring !!! Now I save often. Just got an email yesterday that Elder Scrolls Online is free this week. I think I'm going to break from Skyrim for a couple days and give the online version a go. I've been reluctant to play it because I'm not a fan of PvP or MMOs .... but, what the hell .... it's free so no reason not to check it out. It's also free for a week on PS4 and Xbone too !!
