Fallout 4

So id like peoples input on where they think Fallout 4 will take place and why and what theyd like to see..sorry if this is a copy of a thread somewhere else, i couldnt find one on this topic but regardless..

Heres my reasoning.. starting with a quote i found.

Not much is known about the setting of Fallout 4 so far. When asked to give hints as to the setting of the next Fallout game,Jason Bergman (senior producer of the bethesda fallout series) said (translated from Norwegian), "You'll get no tips from me. But the Mojave Wasteland was a fun place to explore, wasn't it?" *unquote* ..... there is also a very strong norwegian presence in the midwest, i know this because im from there :) so Fallout 3=east coast, FalloutNew vegas= west coast, and to me it makes sense Fallout 4= midwest.

Also in the lonesome road dlc the robot ED-E side quest refrences to a untouched, safe vault in Detroit (midwest)

done reasoning lol.. but anyhow, the brotherhood of steel midwest chapter has never been used in bethesda's fallout series, it is more then likely they have affected a portion of the game. (if youve ever looked at enclave armor and MWBoS its strikingly similar leading me to believe there was some contact or something that lead to this. in turn... midwest. Minnesota, colorado, iowa, wisconsin, michigan, etc etc............. :)

tell me your thoughts people !

With the layoffs at Obsidian, (see the latest news stories) there might not be a next Fallout. That would make the mod community very important to all who like FNV and want to continue playing it. Might also be a good reason to store up some photon charges for the Metacritic reviewers.

Im pretty sure fallout rights were given to bethesda so they themselves can make the fallout series games..which means obsidian isnt a big problem from what ive heard, because bethesda made fallout 3 and obsidian made new vegas... but regardless the mod community is very important and bethesda knows that, thats why they purposely give us mod tools to do such things because they know people want their own game and they cant create the perfect game for everyone..usually why their games are never actually fully complete, because they know modders will fix/change their games for the better...

The fallout rights are still held by Bethseda. They made a deal with Obsidian, they did not sell them the rights.

I still am a bit confused.

In a fallout 3 DLC, it said that the radiation mixed with the industrial stuff made those things. If this is true how would Detroit work?

I can't remember what DLC it was. I haven't played fo3 in a long time. It was the one with the steel factory.

What I am saying is if locations with a bunch of factory pollution create the kind of creatures in the DLC, how will a full game in Detroit work?

Detroit used to have a huge amount of industrial factories.

It's actually a pretty brilliant development strategy. Put out a game, wait a few months, put out a development SDK, and watch while your fans go to town. Then look through the most popular, most creative game mods and riff off them to develop features for the next game. That's exactly how Hardcore mode and weapon mods came about in New Vegas.

Re: Obsidian and Bethesda, Fallout isn't Obsidian's IP. They were contracted to develop New Vegas, but it wasn't Obsidian's lawyers who spent the last couple of years in court with Interplay over the Fallout MMO. Bethesda obviously has long range plans for Fallout, enough to spend years fighting to keep Interplay from watering down the IP.

The talk right now is that Obsidian was contracted by Microsoft to develop a major game (code named "Project North Carolina") for the X-Box. Microsoft either formally canceled, or hasn't paid Obsidian in about seven months, depending on which rumor you put stock in. Obsidian then pulled the plug on the project and laid off the project's developers. By all accounts, it had nothing to do with Bethesda or Fallout.

Financial uncertainty aside, somehow I'm just not seeing Obsidian doing Fallout 4. FNV was basically a smart marketing move by Bethesda, bringing remnants of the old Fallout 1/2 team to do a Fallout set in the West and leveraging a lot of old development assets from Van Buren (aka the original "Fallout 3"). I've always kinda felt that this was the root of the whole "Enclave Remnants" subplot: get the old gang together for one last hurrah.

But now they've done that. Obsidian's doing other things, Bethesda has different plans. I strongly doubt the FO4 will take place anywhere on the West Coast - after the Interplay fiasco, they're going to want to make the game series firmly theirs again. Same basic reasons you'll never see a Half Life game take place in Black Mesa again.

Personally, I'd like to see a return to an urban locale. FNV was a lot of fun in a Fallout nostalgia sort of way, but a lot more was happening in FO3 in much more cramped areas. You had the sense that every door, every corner, every subway station could be hiding great treasures or terrible threats. The wide open Mojave spaces didn't drive that same vibe for me at all.

My bet is Chicago. They talked it up big in FNV, there's apparently still Enclave operating there, probably also still some Brotherhood, an urban setting. For Bethesda, Chicago is a safe bet.

My dream though is Atlanta.
