Frostcrag is now "Bruma Tester House" HELP!

Okay, here's something odd. I fast travel to Frostcrag (the original DLC), and the metal door has been renamed to "Metal Door to Bruma Tester House." Inside, the lighting is very, very dark, as if Darker Dungeons applied itself to Frostcrag. The inner portals that lead to the bedroom area and vault have both been renamed to "Portal to BrumaTesterHouseMid" (or something like that). CTD occurance within Frostcrag has increased (it is almost a guarantee that I'll CTD somewhere in there). I go to the bedroom area, and the lighting there is also very dark.

 

I've tried loading Darker Dungeons before Frostcrag, but the problem persists. I tried loading Frostcrag at the very end of my load order, but the problem continues.

 

I also noticed, and perhaps this is related to the Frostcrag problem, that the Smuggler's Cave (Dunbarrow Cove) also had a wierd renaming and lighting thing: the lighting inside is the cave (not the entrance cave with all the crates and the Nirnroot) is very, very dark. The water has disappeared entirely from the floor of the cave, leaving the ship hight and dry. When I view the door that leads from the entryway cave (the one with all the crates and the Nirnroot) the name for the door is "Door to Paradise Cave." Is this Darker Dungeon's fault? :confused:

Well, we all know Bruma Test house is in the same cell like Frostcrag spire - How it got at the frostcrag reborn, I don't know.

I'd say it has to be one of your mods, try and disabling and enabling them all.

Also, Bruma_House__Fireplace_with_Fire-2800.esp what is this ought to do?

I had this problem, as well. I downloaded a mod called 'Better Frostcrag Spire Lighting', and the problem went away. I load my mods in this order:

 

DLCFrostcrag.esp

DLCFrostcrag - Unofficial Patch.esp

Frostcrag_Spire_to_ArchMages_Quarters_Portals-3822.esp

DLCFrostcrag_MysticEmporiumPatch.esp

Stuff_at_Frostcrag_Spire-8194.esp

Better_Frostcrag_Spire_Lighting-6682.esp

 

This fixed things for me. Obviously one of the other mods I am using (it is a looong list :biggrin: ) broke something, and 'Better Frostcrag Spire Lighting' put it back to normal. Kudos to the author of that one. :thanks:

Hey, thanks, that worked! I did use Frostcrag Better Lighting in the past with a different character, but I wasn't using it for my current (or, rather, older) character. It does make Frostcrag "Frostcrag" again, not Bruma Tester House. I did notice that the better lighting effects weren't taking place (if I recall correctly, the mod is supposed to add many candles/candelabra to the wizard's tower), so I'm going to try using the mod Frostcrag Disannoyed, which also improves the lighting. Hopefully, Frostcrag won't spontaneously revert to Bruma Tester House; if it does, I've backed up a copy of the original mod and its BSA archive. I'll also keep Better Frostcrag Spire lighting at the bottom of my load order. Again, thank you for your help!

 

If anyone still has any insights into the Bruma Tester House problem, please continue to post, I'm still curious as to what might have originally caused the problem to appear.

I had it until this evening. Then I ran TES4View and I found various conflicts, especially with 'Real Lights' mod, which renamed its cells as 'BrumaTesterHouse' too. So I've put it near the end in the load order and after 'Real Light' and now no more dark rooms and 'BrumaTesterwhatnot'..

nVidia Black Screen Fix.esp

 

For me, this black screen fix turned out to be why Frostcrag had suddenly turned super dark and had strange door names. It's because the person who made the esp file unnecessarily changes the "fog near" value in several test cells that are normally not accessible by the player. But Bethesda got lazy and reused some of those for Frostcrag, so the black screen fix ends up overriding it. I fixed it in my configuration by editing the black screen fix for that area to match what Frostcrag wanted the settings to be and that solved the problem.

Hmmm, I use the nVidia screen fix mod on my computer, too. This bears looking into. Thanks for the tip. The more I learn about TESCS, the more I come to think every game should come with such a program, if only for troubleshooting the inevitable bugs!

I'm using both Frostcrag Reborn and nVidia Black Screen Fix. I have this problem as well, and I'm not quite sure why.

 

scalonhulk, if you could release your fixed nBSF.esp or just e-mail it to me ([email protected]), I'd be very grateful.

 

Otherwise, no more discussion about FR was had here - does it cause the BrumaTestHouse bug on its own, or is it that when FR conflicts with something it goes wonky?
