3dsmax importing nifs problem

So i've got all my nif files ready to import into 3dsmax, but every time I go to import a file it does not show up in the list at all, and when I try to drag and drop or to open it is saying it is not a supported file type however I have already installed the plug in required to open nif files. What am I doing wrong?

if you have 3dsmax 2012 then you are out of luck.. if you have 2011 32bit version you are out of luck..

load up the nif file in nifskope, choose the nitrishape for the part/s you want and export to OBJ.

then import the OBJ to 3ds max.

all the versions are WIP. there is figments version you can find at niftools, dunno if that is the most updated one. Which is a bit janky in places. But it'll work for skyrim meshes, I don't know about 32 bit, as I use 64bit.

someone did 3.4 for max 2011, appaently it works for 2010 too

But really I wish they used the 3.5 base, unless they actually did and the current code in that version is in the repository and everything is based off the version, 3.5 which is the most stable imo, these 3.6 or 3.7 versions or whatever it is now, are more up to date, but are slightly more buggy.
