Retexture question from a noob...

So not only am I relatively new to modding, but I am new to PC gaming in general. So I apologize in advance if some of my questions seem rather obvious.

 

I am an graphic designer by trade and I thought it be interesting to do some retextures of some of my favorite weapons, but I am not exactly sure about how to tackle that. I know that I will need to use a program called igp11, but I am not sure where to obtain the original textures for any given weapon or armor so I can modify it, say in Photoshop. I watched a few videos regarding texture dumping/overriding, but there wasn't really an explanation for where to obtain the original textures.

 

Also, I am curious, if I mod a weapon will someone that summon me see the retexture or does it only appear on my screen?

 

Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. Who knows, maybe down the line someday I might be able to put out some awesome textures for everyone. Fingers crossed.

1)However, first you must use iGP11, configure all paths and settings correctly.

2)At the moment the only way to get original textures is starting the game through iGP11 in "Dumping Mode". So the program will dump all textures loaded, you can find them in the iGP11 dump folder, and search manually what you want.

Or when you are in game (character loaded), you can alt-tab, delete all files in the dump folder, return in game, Equip/Disequip the wanted weapon/armor. In this way only weapon textures will be dumped.

3)Close the game, copy dumped textures in a new folder, and convert them (are .dds files) to .png.

4)Now you can edit with photoshop.

5)Convert edited textures to .dds files and copy in the iGP11 Override folder.

6)Start the game through iGP11 in "Override Mode" and enjoy.

 

Override Texture is only client-side. Also iGP11 injects .dll files so potentially you can be banned for cheating.
