doomjockey
I suppose I play these games making my own decisions, to some degree, though I do not always make realistic decisions for the sake of the adventure. I'm often more pragmatic than the steely-eyed, solitary hero. For instance, I would never choose to enter an Oblivion portal alone when adequate assistance can be found in just about any town. That's just moronic. But, since Oblivion requires your participation to progress the plot, there's not much of a choice there. True role-playing strikes me as a redundant mechanism with a game like Oblivion since you can and probably will make several conflicting, alignment shifting decisions. However at times, I will... verbalize my intentions within an RPG. Sometimes with an accent. And a hat. Maybe a little off-topic, but it explains how I think about this. The second time I played through KOTR I decided I would go the evil way to try something new. So I arrive at the very first city and see those racist guys bullying the alien merchant. Well, to be honest, I couldn't bring myself to look away or even aid them, so I helped him. "No biggie. I can always join the dark side later during the game." Well, turned out I didn't join the darkside at all. Saw the lightside ending for the second time, sighed and uninstalled. :whistling: Maybe I am a softie, maybe there is just enough destructiveness and casual evil around us IRL so I'd rather not deal with it ingame aswell. *shrug* You're totally right. There's enough real crap in the world for thrill junkies to get their fill. Personally, some choices warrant no roleplay whatsoever. No matter what kind of good/evil character I play, I don't tolerate slavery. Ever. Were it programmed into the game, the Telvanni would have hated me for bringing freedom to the slaves. Also, I don't much enjoy facing female opponents. Don't get me wrong, I will if only to save my pretty face from Umbra, but I'd rather just steal the blade and run. Then pray to the Divines she doesn't find me and beat the snot outta me.
Carah
Carah is a fantasy version of me in some ways. I make a lot of her decisions on how I feel what is right and wrong. She isn't spell oriented at all, or marksman, she likes the personal touch, face to face, catching them with their pants down, and cutting them up. She likes selling and buying things, especially when she needs retail therapy. Oh! she has PMS, that can get her in a bit of trouble (it's a great way to keep your level down). Also, she is majorly crushing Lucien (one of her guilty pleasures). That's her below. I wanted her to look like Liv. She looks nothing like me I have flaming red curly hair. nosisab
About the topic question I don't have any doubt. I never, not now or anytime, confounded the things. Keeping the clear line between 'my self' and the interpretation rigidly traced so I would never take as personal what happens to the 'avatar', and even when I could perceive it being used to hit me as myself I would just stop the 'performance', try to re stabilize the things and if not possible, quit it at all. We tend to develop a care for our PC, this is just fine and natural, what we must struggle to don't let happening, is mix the things.

Zamboni
Well of course I play a completely imagined role... I couldn't find the "computer nerd" birth sign in the menus. I mean, if I was playing a fantasy version of myself, I would seriously think that I have some mental problems since my character is a female woodelf carrying a unicorn horn (it was a glitch and now it's stuck in my inventory)... That's as far as it can be from my real self (imperial male nerd, no unicorn horn)... If my character was more like me, she would spend A LOT more time at The Feed Bag than saving Tamriel from certain doom.

It's behind the last line on the left .. near the squiggly thingie .. I've kinda changed my character some. She's still female but I've rebuilt everything about her including her looks (new facegen) and body style (using Roberts now, instead of Exnems). She's now a Breton "Mage Horse Thief" (special class I made for me). The object is to see how many horses I can steal from the Legion before I get caught and sent to jail. stephanie
I have a place (in my housemod) over in Morrowind and another in Valenwood where I keep my horses. Most of the time I'm out of the legion's reach, but once a soldier appeared in my stable in Morrowind to reclaim his horse after I stole it from him. He didn't bother me or try to arrest me, so I let him have it back, followed him, and stole it again when he stopped to kill a bear ... If you need one, let me know and we'll meet in the abandoned shack to discuss terms and a delivery date ... Lol.
nosisab
It is clear that sometimes there is not even need of a mod to us to create 'different' ways of playing, this idea of horse robing is one of these fun ones. I'm attempted to create a topic dedicated to the "Funny, strange or simple ridiculous things we did or saw in gaming", if it don't exist already :) I have several cases of these.
